*ME- I chose Minnesota State University Moorhead to study because it has some of the best award-winning faculty members in my field of study and has advanced technology to work with. Also, this university provides students with the opportunity to participate in research and creative activities. Moreover, this university has been named (For his interruption, I can't complete my words).
*VO- (He noticed something on the computer. I could feel something after seeing his facial expression.) Do you have any relatives in the USA?
*ME- Yeah, Sir. My elder sister is in the USA as a dependent and my brother-in-law is doing his PhD in Computer Science and Engineering at North Dakota State University. But he is on study leave right now because he is an assistant professor at a public university in Bangladesh.
*VO- So, you'll live with your sister, right?
*ME- No,Sir. I will live in the dorm as I have dorm attachment. But maybe sometimes, I will visit my sister's house on the weekends.
*VO- So all of the ideas were given by your sister?
*ME- Sorry, sir! Can you please repeat?

*ME- No, Sir. She just informed me as one of her friends, Boisakhi Dhor, graduated from this university and now, she is doing her master's. But after the information, I researched and explored a lot of things about the state and the university. Minnesota is the 12th largest state in the USA and basically, it is known for its lakes and forests. (Again he interrupted and I couldn’t complete my words.)
*VO- Who will bear all of your expenses?
*ME- Sir, my father will be my sponsor.
*VO- What does he do?
*ME- He is currently working as the vice principal of Barishal Collectorate School and College. Basically, he is a retired government employee and retired in 2019. He was the secretary and the chairman of Barishal Education Board under the Ministry of Education. Besides this, he is an expert member of National University, Bangladesh.
*VO- Then he looked at the computer screen for a while and passed my passport next to the computer. I clearly saw that he took the blue leaflet in his left hand and then said, "Congratulations! I am approving your visa." He also told some lines but I couldn’t hear those lines as I was super excited at that moment.
*ME: I took the leaflet and the I-20 and said, "Thank you so much, Sir. You just made my day. "

Now, it’s time to share some lines which I experienced regarding the visa interview. It was really tough to control the mental pressure during the visa interview as all of the F-1 applicants were rejected in front of me. I was the first one who got the visa in this slot.I consistently told myself to calm down and then took a deep breath. I tried to seem confident as much as possible by my gesture,appearance and accent with moving my hands. I maintained the eye-contact and smiley face all the time. Also, my sister and brother-in-law groomed me as much as possible and I gave almost 2/3 mocks daily to my sister and unlimited time behind the mirror because I got only a few days to prepare; almost 7/8 days. In my free time, I read many visa interview experiences and explored many things through Google and YouTube .

04. I-20 পেয়ে গেলে। SAVIS Fee পেমেন্ট করুন। (SAVIS fee visa interview এর ১ সপ্তাহ আগে পেমেন্ট করলেও হবে)

05. এইবার ভিসার জন্য আবেদন। D-160 ফিলাপ করুন (D-160 ফরমে সঠিক তথ্য দিন)। D-160 Confirmation page প্রিন্ট করে রাখুন।

06. এখন ভিসা ফি দেওয়া। US travel Bangladesh এ নিজের একাউন্ট তৈরি করুন এবং D-160 ফরমের Application ID দিয়ে ভিসা ফি রিসিপ্ট ডাউনলোড করে প্রিন্ট করুন। তারপর পার্সপোট কপিসহ EBL ব্যাংকে ভিসা ফি জমা দিন। ২৪ ঘন্টার মধ্যে আপনার একাউন্ট ভিসা ফি পরিশোধের আপডেট পাবেন। অবশ্যই ইমেইল ও পাবেন।
এখন ইন্টারভিউ তারিখ নেওয়ার সময়। সে এক মহাযুদ্ধ। যতই যুদ্ধ হোক আগে বা পরে আপনি ইন্টারভিউ তারিখ পাবেন। বেশি টেনশন নিয়েন না। একাউন্টে গিয়ে সময়মত ইন্টারভিউ তারিখ নিবেন। একদিনে ৩-৪ বার বেশি লগইন করবেননা। একাউন্ট ৪৮ ঘন্টা, অথবা ৭২ ঘন্টার জন্য ব্লক হয়ে যেতে পারে।

07.ইন্টারভিউ তারিখ তারিখ পেয়ে গেলে খুব সুন্দর পোশাক পরিধান করে সুন্দর ভাবে ভিসা অফিসারের সাথে ইন্টারভিউ দিন। (ফ্যামিলিসহ থাকলে সবাই একসাথে ইন্টারভিউ দিবেন।) প্রয়োজনীয় কাগজপত্র-

তবে একটু চিন্তা থেকে যাবে। Visa issued না হওয়া পর্যন্ত। অনেকের ক্ষেত্রে Visa Approved করলেও Visa status: Administration Processing(AP) এ থাকে। অনেক কষ্টকর একটি ব্যাপার। মাসের পর মাস পরে থাকে AP তে। এই সময় ঈশ্বরের কাছে প্রার্থনা করা ছাড়া আর কোনো উপায় থাকে না। ভাগ্য ভালো হলে ৩-৩০ দিনের মধ্যে Visa issued হয়ে যায়।

10. এখন টিকেট কেটে ফেলুন কম দামে। (যে যার সুবিধা মত)

This weekend, the U.S. Embassy interviewed over 900 students and tourists on a special workday called “Super Friday.” We have resumed regular consular services, and to meet the high demand for visas we are making special efforts to ensure as many applicants as possible receive interviews. We are working hard to ensure as many students as possible receive interviews before the start of the spring semester. In addition to students, during this “Super Friday” we also interviewed applicants with other travel plans such as tourists and business travelers. Our next "Super Friday" is scheduled for November 4th and will focus on immigrant visa interviews.

Satisfied, Smiled, said ok, and then watching the Monitor.
VO: Have you traveled outside Bangladesh?
Me: Yes mam. I traveled to India.
Stopped Me...... Typing Something....
VO: Your current job is about Engineering why do you choose IT?
Me: Mam, I am passionate about this subject from starting of my career. Besides in my sector I am always trying to learn more about IT when I see they solving IT problem. It inspires me. So when I looked upon this university giving me a good opportunity then I chose IT.

In between it an American beard middle aged guy entered talking with VO also watching the monitor then he try to identify something on that. They are discussing. I am feeling nervous more.
Then

VO: Who is your sponsor?
Me: Well..mam my tution fees with my living costs will be paid by my father.
VO: What do your father do?
Me: Actually my father is an Associate Prof of a reputated College in Dhaka.
Then she stopped me. Typing around 40 seconds
VO: Sorry I cannot approving your visa this time. Try agian later.

Me : I passed my I-20 and Passport even before he asked. (may be out of nervousness).

VO Checked my i-20 for a while and asked,

VO : Who told you about the university?

Me : I've done extensive research online searching for universities that offers a masters program in Business Analytics using websites like USnews dot highereducation, Times higher education, QS world university ranking..... He stopped me.

He was looking at the monitor with a strange look seems like he found something unusual.

VO : I can see you've got merit based scholarship, so who's gonna fund the rest?

ME : My father's going to pay the deficit amount as well as I have also saved.... Again stopped me.

VO : Tell me about his occupation.

ME : He is working in XYZ company as a (Designation). Moreover he... Again stopped me.

VO : Can you specify what this company actually does?

Me : Described in two lines.

VO : Again looked at the monitor for a while,

VO : Said nothing just gave my i-20 back with the blue leaflet.

I was still standing there, shocked like what happened!!

VO : Have a nice flight to USA with ✌️sign.

Me : Thank you sir, have a great day. And left the counter saying Alhumdulillah.

* A girl before me also got her visa with self fund in MS program. Her sponsor was a banker. All she did just answered and described everything clearly confidently.

GRE : Not appeared as it was waived for these universities.
Had around a year of job experience.
I was connected to multiple Students and volunteering organization in college and university as well as sports - national level. And had few participations in different competitions. (MUN, Case competition, Business Idea Generation)

Suggestions for self funded students -
Don't be nervous. Self Funded students are not always rejected. If you have pure intentions and moderate profile you'll get it. Just Be confident and truthful. And definitely ask to Allah.

If VO asks something, answer should be not be too short not too long. Try to answer as they don't get scope to follow up.
Answer every question clearly with honesty.
Maintain eye-contact even vo is not looking at you.
Be confident.... It works.

* Spend more time to write SOP and essays as required as this is most important requirement to be considered for admission. I've spent more than two weeks to write the 1st draft.
