Dean’s Charity Steer Show, set for July 30, brings together community members and young leaders to benefit an important cause— Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio. Dan Mueller, VP of Tax, is a member of the charity’s board and part of Team Rocky, alongside 17-year-old Trace Bryan and his steer.
Trace’s family owns and operates a farm in a community similar to the one in which Dan grew up in northwest Ohio. He’s an involved member of his community through 4-H and FFA and on his school’s varsity football, baseball and wrestling teams.
Dan wanted to be part of a team with a student from a community like the one he grew up in.
“Having an overlap of our homes and communities was important to me," he said. "I see a lot of myself when I was a student back then in Trace now.”
Being on the charity’s board and part of Team Rocky has been fulfilling for Dan.
“It’s AEP’s customers and our communities who benefit from the amazing things that Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio does. They have a huge impact supporting families in times of need, so it’s important to help them continue to do that.”
A father of three, supporting Ronald McDonald House is a cause near to Dan’s heart. Nearly three decades ago, his young cousin was severely injured in a car accident that resulted in a months-long hospital stay.
“Our whole family benefitted greatly from the Ronald McDonald House charity in Dayton. Ever since then, we’ve been collecting pop tabs, making donations and volunteering to support the house. When the opportunity to be on the board for the Columbus chapter came up, it felt like a perfect fit.”

A beautiful, windy summer day is a perfect time for flying kites – FAR away from power lines. Never fly a kite near utility poles or transmission towers.
In 2024, we've seen unprecedented weather extremes. Our lineworkers, always ready to respond, are currently tackling the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, many far away from their families.
Today is recognized by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers as Lineworker Appreciation Day, an important one in the utility industry. We’re grateful for these brave individuals and all they do for our communities today and all days.
Being a lineworker means answering the call in all kinds of disastrous weather – including hurricanes. These dedicated individuals gathered, ready to respond to whatever Beryl had in store. Wishing them a SAFE and speedy restoration.
Tip: NEVER try to disconnect or reconnect a meter, even in an emergency! There is always danger of electrocution and arc flashes. Instead, call us immediately. The only person who should touch a meter is a qualified professional from the power company.
We had a fantastic time celebrating Night with our partners at Columbus Crew! Members of our Military and Veterans Employee Resource Group (MVERG) participated in the opening ceremonies. Kara Kuhns performed the coin toss and Greg Young was honored as Hometown Hero.

The main event, a virtual celebration, showcased how people across the globe observe this important month. AAEP also set up lobby displays in some of our offices so that employees could learn about traditions in the Asian culture.
“It’s an honor to share these great events with employees. It takes a lot of effort. I love learning about the many countries this month represents, hearing great music and seeing so many examples of food in those cultures,” Varun Palaniswamy, planning & engineering supervisor and chair of AAEP.
