Mansion Day School

On June 19, 1865, nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln emancipated enslaved Africans in America, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas with news of freedom. In 1619, the first Africans enslaved by English colonists were brought to Jamestown, Virginia, and for generations, enslaved Africans would be subjected to cruel and unusual treatment as the economy grew on the backs of free labor. It wasn't until two months after the civil war ended that the last known group of slaves was emancipated, and that emancipation day is called Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is a significant day in American history, marking the end of slavery in the United States. However, it's essential to acknowledge that the fight for true freedom and equality did not end on that day. The journey towards full liberation has been long and fraught with challenges, and even today, many liberties remain under threat. We must always honor the sacrifices made by our ancestors by continuing their legacy of resilience and advocacy.

It is an incredible honor to be recognized as one of the 2024 Nonprofits to Watch by The Columbus Foundation. We have tirelessly worked to educate our students and set them on a successful path of excellence for the rest of their lives. We do this by educating them in a disciplined, but nurturing environment while instilling a strong work ethic that will propel them into greatness!
