I don't need any more plants' - and other lies I tell myself.

How many different kinds of pothos do we have? More than can fit in this post! If your goal is to collect them all, be sure to swing by Strader’s for pothos varieties you’ve never even heard of!

Continue to harvest vegetables as they ripen. This will help promote new fruit development and keep rotting veggies out of the garden. If you have over-planted, no problem. Give excess produce to your neighbors, the local food pantry, or freeze or can for later consumption.

Once they have finished fruiting, prune back to the ground all raspberry canes.

Continue to deadhead annuals to encourage more blooms and keep plants looking their best. We still have annuals to fill in those bare spots in the garden. Just be certain to keep them well watered.

When harvesting blueberries, allow berries to remain on the plants for three to five days after they turn blue. Waiting several days allows berries to reach their maximum sugar content. When using bird netting to protect berries, leave an 8-12 inch gap between the netting and ground to prevent trapping and injuring birds and snakes. A "walk-in" cage covered with netting or chicken wire can also be used to protect the plants.

Blossom-end rot of tomato, pepper, squash, and watermelon may be noticed now. The bottom end of the fruit becomes brown and rotted. Promptly remove any fruits that have blossom-end rot or are badly malformed. This nutritional disorder is caused by a lack of calcium in developing fruits and is brought on by dry conditions and inconsistent watering. Water your plants deeply and regularly and keep them mulched. Tomato plants may need 1-2 gallons of water each at least twice a week during drought periods.

Add herbs to your diet to up the nutrition benefits of summer eating! The most nutritious herbs include parsley, mints, oregano, basil, thyme and dill. Add these to summer salads and grilled veggies and meats. Mints are perfect in iced tea and, of course, mojitos.
