Friendship Bible Class: We are a Family!

Community, friendship, laughter, and Bible Study are overflowing at Friendship Bible Class (FBC). We meet on first and third Wednesdays, delving into a Scripture lesson, a time of prayer, crafts, snacks and worship.

Once you come to FBC, you are a part of the family. Molly Martin is one of our FBC friends. She loves attending as it is a safe place where she is loved unconditionally and has fellowship with her friends. Molly brings her guitar and loves to play for the class during worship time. Her friends find this to be a real treat. Josh Valentino’s warm personality is inviting to others as soon as they arrive in the room. There is never a lack of laughter when he is in the room. Josh is a man of prayer. His friends regularly ask that he lead our prayer time. Bethany Wilson is our class encourager. When she isn’t sharing about sports, she is complimenting, sharing a hug or shouting a “good job” to her friends.

Our volunteers, Barb Winter, Kristi Rose, Brynna Rose, Nancy Walton, and Rachel Sutton love sharing their time with our class. They didn’t all feel like they were “equipped” to serve our friends with disabilities, but qu**ky found that God equips those he calls. Barb shared that she feels we are “differently abled” in our own ways and once we realize that we are all created just as God wanted us to be, we find purpose and meaning as well as our place in God’s family.

The genuine love, care, and acceptance in the room is like none other. Each person is part of God’s plan; he created each of us in a unique way, and together, we are his masterpieces who come together to make a whole family, God’s family. Come find out why Friendship Bible Class is an oasis and you will be refreshed and feel the presence of the Lord each and every week.

Join us in prayer:
Let us be faithfully in prayer for President Trump, his staff and his family, and for the families of those killed, injured and traumatized in the attack. Let us also be praying for President Biden and all other candidates for office at our city, state and national level. What we witnessed brings home the danger these public servants put themselves in, and it is right for us to pray for their safety, and for comfort for them and loved ones who now face greater fear. And let’s be praying for our nation – for peace, kindness, and neighborliness even through this election cycle where differences of opinion are strong. This is a moment where we as a country can seek both repentance and healing.

We pray for our nation:
Father God, we thank you for the many blessings that we enjoy as a nation. Fruitful lands, good laws, and many freedoms. Please give us leaders who are righteous, honest, and that seek justice for all. And we pray for ourselves, that we would be a people who pursue virtue and all good with our neighbors, that we would use the freedoms we have according to your will and your wisdom. May this country be a blessing to all people and use us, Lord, to further your kingdom. Amen.

A new sermon series starts this Sunday called "Sabbath." You've probably heard "Remember the Sabbath Day by keeping it holy.” Of all the Ten Commandments, this may be the one we are proudest to break. We are non-stop. We are busy. We are productive. And sometimes, we can’t even help it; this is just what life requires of us. But is it what God requires or wants of us? Is it what God wants for us? Or for the people we love? What if Sabbath isn’t just something God requires but something God gives us, and something God does for us? Join us for this series as we explore the Biblical gift of Sabbath.

Today at VBS, the children learned about the parable of the dinner guests from Luke 14:15-24, and how God sometimes invites everyone to grow and learn with him, but sometimes people turn him down. They also learned that when we accept his invitation to grow and learn with him, we are loved and treated with the best care in his family.

We can hardly wait for Day 2! ualc.org/vbs

🙏 2024 National Prayer:
Jesus, we profess our faith in You. You are the Light of the world, and in You there is no darkness. For You are our lamp, O LORD, and our God who lights our darkness. Forgive us for fearing and focusing on the darkness around us instead of being filled with faith and shining like the city on a hill You have called us to be. Forgive us for the times when we have been the absence of light, allowing darkness to dwell in America. Lead us forward to dispel the darkness and bring light throughout the Church, Family, Education, Business, Military, Government, and Arts, Entertainment, and Media.

We are saved by grace through faith, released from the darkness that once held us captive and now free to walk in the newness of life in You. Light dispels darkness and exposes what is hidden and wicked, so we commit to rise and shine! For by You, Lord, we can take courage to run against the enemy, and by our God we can fight the good fight and keep the faith as living lampstands in our communities and country. We fear no evil for You are with us.

Lord, Your way is perfect, You lead us on paths of righteousness for Your name's sake. Your Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Your Word is Truth, instructing and inspiring us to live in the abundant life You gave when You saved us from the death and destruction of the enemy. Fill us with Truth as we read, study, and live Your Word.

God, You are a shield for all those who take refuge in You. As we abide in You and Your Word abides in us, we take up our shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God and run boldly into the darkness to Lift Up the Word and Light Up the World!

In the Mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen! 🙏
