It feels really good to get serial number 001 of the production 3rd and 4th Gen IRS on the road and into testing! Keep an eye out for it at the CAM challenge in Peru, IN next weekend!
It's starting to look a little more racecar these days.
Sometimes you have to go backwards to go forward. Adding in the parking brake, adding a harness bar, putting in a racing seat and fixing the power window motor.
Since the bed needed to come off to swap tanks, I figured it would be a good time to start some much needed updates on the . I've been researching black stains for the bed wood and finally found one that had the look I wanted. There are more updates coming soon, but it's time to enjoy this for a while before starting on the next big update.
After 12 years and 11k miles, the Model A suffered its first catastrophic failure. When the Model A was first built, we had very limited fuel tank design experience and less than the best weld practices, one of the plug welds on the internal baffle cracked and caused a significant leak.
With 12 more years of design experience and several improvements in tank design and fabrication practices, a new tank was designed and built. Hopefully the new tank lasts the rest of the life of this build.
Never stop learning. Never stop improving. Never be afraid to talk about your failures. Always listen to those that know more than you. Drive your hot rods.
They're the same but different 😁
The interior is coming together!
Almost ready to be driven in anger! We just need to rebleed the brakes and check things over.
It's alive! The started yesterday with no issues. Runs on 8cyl, running off the fuel pump in the tank. It was a good day for sure!
There is still a ton to do before it's drivable, but it's getting closer everyday.
Got some important parts recently! 1000hp axles and E46 ABS started (still needs final fit and alignment).
It's starting to look like a car again.
The dash should be in for the last time. Completely rewired for this specific car.
This is how they begin. Hopefully the rear suspension will go together smoothly with only minor design updates along the way.
It may not look like much, but the amount of work needed to mount a lift off hood with hinges and latches is quite a bit. Hood mounting is complete.
The front and rear suspension designs are complete and we should start putting those together very soon!
Just a few progress pictures. The engine and transmission are in (hopefully the last time). The k-member and motor mounts are in. We started wiring the engine today! Hopefully within the next month or 2, we'll have some more progress on the unique parts of this car, but for now they're still in the design phase.
Front and rear mock up prototypes are complete! Next is to finalize the design and get the first set of real parts built! We can't wait to get the real parts made and get this bad 3rd gen Camaro on the road!
Made some progress on the 3rd gen. We got the inner rear frame supports removed (so we can finalize the chassis scans), the interior removed and the engine/trans out of the car!
Made some good progress on the firewall today! Next is to start on the dog house and keep moving back to the tunnel
New firewall progress. Still a lot of work to do, but it's getting there!
What firewall? Time to start over and do what Chevy could never imagine back in 1972!
Finished up the rear section of the new tunnel. Onto the firewall so we can button up the rest of the tunnel/dog house.
We need to cut 60 factory spot welds out. Pro tip... Grind the paint off of the fl**ge that has the spot welds. The low spots will be the spot welds and are a lot easier to identify.
Introducing our newest project... A 1972 C-10 on a one off custom chassis using C5 cradles and suspension.
A few years back I talked to friend into doing something stupid....
He was about to buy a pre-made chassis setup for his 1972 Chevy C-10 project. We took a few measurements and I convinced him that we could design and build a chassis that would be better and cheaper than anything he was looking at.
Fast forward a couple years and life has gotten crazy! He no longer has the time to work on his truck and asked us to finish it for him. Being that we talked him into this mess, we couldn't leave him hanging.
So far we've clearanced for the drive shaft and reinforced the floor. We've also tacked together the diff mount and started building the trans tunnel. After the trans tunnel is finished we'll start working on driver controls.
Getting started on the next project. 3rd gen Trans Am getting a full Skoons treatment! More details on the build later, but for now, it's tear down, planning, measuring and designing!
First drive of the 3rd gen. Still have a few items to square away, but overall very happy with the first drive!
