I thought I’d share some photos from a recent refurb I did on a pair of Cerwin-Vega speakers. The woofer foam on these tends to rot out and need replacement. It’s a time-consuming process, but wow, does that new foam look great! These will be available for sale soon - I like to give my work some time to be tested, to make sure they will rock for years to come.

I’ve been working on this Pioneer SX-880 tonight, and decided to try some warm white LEDs in it. While I do like the natural glow of an incandescent in a Pioneer receiver, these LEDs definitely make it easier to read the tuner dials.
So why even try LEDs in this unit? An unfortunate downside of incandescents in these receivers is the heat it causes. They tend to shrink the veneer on the top over time.

I have been after a Pioneer RT-707 reel-to-reel for quite awhile. I finally got my hands on one today. It’s going to need some work done to it, but I really look forward to getting this one working.

Congrats to customers, Jason and Michele, on their new vintage Yamaha setup. They were looking for a budget vintage Hi-Fi set, so I put together a Yamaha CR-820 receiver, Technics SL-D202 turntable, and a pair of Baby Advent bookshelf speakers.
Jason had done some research on the Baby Advent speakers, and was concerned about a lack of low end, so I added a small Yamaha subwoofer to balance the range. The final combination really sounded great together.

This bookend matched pair of rare JBL C49 “Dale” speakers have just been refoamed, premium binding-post speaker wire terminals added, grills were recovered, chrome and badges polished, and mid century modern style chrome legs were added. A lot of time and care went into making these look and sound as beautiful as possible, while preserving their mid century modern styling. Wood cases have been touched up, but not completely refinished. (I wanted to preserve their original charm.) These are most impressive with jazz, acoustic, and female vocal recordings.

This pair includes the JBL “whizzer” LE8 full-range drivers.
