Autumn Vann
Hello! Thanks for stopping by to look at my artwork.
Had a fun time doing my lil booth today!
This guy made it into a spring exhibition at Degallery in Bryan! Exhibition dates are Feb 12th- July 1st. It’s a little bit if a drive but I think checking out the gallery was definitely worth it.
I shouldaaaa taken a photo with my artwork hanging at Lonestar during the reception.
This one is on display there until the 11th! I am very excited and grateful to be able to be participate in the student show this year.
I don’t think I’ll stick with this frame. I really want to experiment with crocheting a frame or something over the top and funky if I have to frame it myself. There was a short turnaround to frame with appropriate hardware and take back to the school.
I’m also really contemplating taking a life drawing course next semester to balance out enrolling in math. Wish me luck with that 😬
Been working on this incense burner tonight!
The ghost goes on top of the little grave site that the incense burns on top of so all the smoke should (hopefully) all pour out of his face (:
This is probably the biggest bag I’ve crocheted so far and definitely the most time consuming
I love how granny squares look though
Annnd I recently learned the tip of using a heat gun on acrylic yarn gets rid of any fuzziness or pilling! I feel like that’s a game changer I wish I’d known about sooner
I never showed complete froggy bag!
His little tummy area also serves as another pocket
Circular bags have been pretty fun to do since they work up kind of fast you get to see your progress pretty quickly
Next there’s gonna be a duck version 👀
“Family Dinner”
I did a colorful version of the original black and white roach drawing I did for school
I originally saw a similar set up of this still like at the Houston Science Museum and really liked how everything was laid out
I think the black and white version definitely looks more grimy but this one was more fun to make
This painting was texture heavy ✨
It’s been a long time since I’ve painted Leon and the first time I’ve painted a full body portrait of him
It was super challenging but I really love how it turned out and hopefully he does too
Finally got a good picture of this guy! I’m entering him into the student art show today. Wish me luck!
Finished this fun little sun purse!
It also has a liner sewed in so no bits and bobs can slip out.
I have a couple more bags completed I’ll share soon :)
I love painting outside now that the weather isn’t out to get me
Finished my Halloween sweater (:
I am so excited to finish up this ghost friend!
I’m planning on added some small flowers to give him a cartoony bedsheet ghost feel
I also want to make him into a decorative incense burner! I’ve really been enjoying hand building with clay lately but eventually I’ll get on practicing with the wheel again :)
I’ll have this little froggy bag finished soon! I already attached the handle and pinned the liner to be sewn into place.
I feel like he makes for a cute fall bag.
Family photo! 🎃
I was so excited to be able to come into pottery today and finish up these last two pumpkins. Soon they’ll go in for their bisque firing.
Next I’m working on a cute little ghost!
I can’t wait to get back into pottery and finish up these pumpkins!
Newest fruit inspired crochet bag! I feel like the options are endless with drawstring bags.
I sew two liners into bags like these and add a layer of poly fill between so no matter what the bag’s contents are it’ll always have that blueberry shape.
I’ve already been thinking about what I’m going to make next now that this commission is officially complete!
Surviving the first round of critiques for the semester!
I decided to take my drawing assignment for class as an opportunity to draw what my next painting will be.
I’m excited to paint this in a more fun way with color and some thick brush strokes.
I’m gonna start drawing like this again.
I think these are some of the oldest things I’ve drawn. I used to throw away a loooot if someone else didn’t get to it first.
“Down the Drain”
I wanted to repost one of the paintings that I feel threw me into experimenting with color.
I did this painting when I was going through a rough time emotionally. I’m sure you can tell with the message in the sink, the dead flowers, and empty cans pouring their all out straight into a drain.
I finally finished the mural in one of our bathrooms. My mission to make our house super colorful is slow but still very much in progress!!
Did this fun little piece today! This was my first time using illustration board and I really love the texture the colored pencils were able to achieve on it!
Being able to branch out and use multiple mediums on one piece of artwork has been really freeing and made art making more enjoyable again. Let me know what you think of this one!
Also I super broke my phone so I’m waiting it out to get some better photos when the weather is nice with my actual camera. Close up texture photos to come!
🎨
I dropped off my barrel for Artist Boat in Galveston yesterday.
Once a year Artist Boat holds a art competition for painting colorful/eye catching trash cans to be placed on the beaches.
Next time I'll see this guy is on June 10th at the Ocean World day fest!
For now here is one of my favorite areas of the barrel.
Check out this sweet strawberry bag just in time for Summer!
This was my first drawstring bag and I'm in love with it. Let me know what you think!
New sticker pt. 2!
Find this cute die cut sticker on my shop at autumnvannarts.com!
Being able to take some of my favorite parts of my pieces and create something new with them as been really enjoyable so far. Let me know what you think :)
Guess what! I made my first batch of sticker sheets!! Pt. 1
I had a lot of fun curating what to include and designing the sheet. Definitely expect more sheets in the future.
These are 5x7 sheets featuring 7 waterproof stickers. Available at Autumnvannarts.com!
Hey there!
I wanted to share some of my personal favorite parts of my work. It's been tricky at times to work on brushwork but I've really been aiming to include more thick texture in my work because I find myself drawn to it in other's art.
I love that the use of texture can help set the mood of a painting, bring attention to the use of medium, and redirect focus. Including some of those thick brushstrokes have been the best part for me lately!
Wanted to post some close ups of the texture in this cutie coconut tree painting!
I've really liked being able to become more confident in my brushwork as well as color choices.
I've been thinking of breaking out some gouache lately and seeing how difficult it is to do similar techniques I've been doing in acrylics but getting the option to have that sweet matte finish.
This piece was a fun little challenge with the lighting and adding texture. I love the Summer vibes from the coconut tree and the lighting from the sun.
It's for an art trade and I'm so excited for it to be seen in person. I've been trying to slowly collect other artist's work to dedicate a wall to in my work area. I love seeing new artist's work and being inspired by them.
