Happy ! We are most frequently asked "just what is Part A and B". Good question! Let's dive in.

The graphic below outlines the basics of what Part A and B offer with Original Medicare. Part A is referred to as "Hospital Insurance Benefits". It also covers other inpatient care including skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation facilities, and hospice. A big note to remember: Part A has a 𝗕𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗙𝗜𝗧 period deductible and not an annual deductible! This means you could potentially see the deductible more than once in a calendar year, depending on how often you are hospitalized.

Part B is referred to as "Supplementary Medical Insurance Benefits". It covers a broad range of outpatient services such as physician care and varying preventive services like your "Welcome to Medicare" visit. You will pay a premium for Part B and it has an 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗨𝗔𝗟 deductible.

Let’s talk ! Just like in baseball, Medicare has penalties for parts B & D if you are not enrolled before the deadlines. You can delay parts B & D, but you want to make sure your coverage is as good as Original Medicare.
One of the most creditable coverage plans is your employer group insurance plan. If you decide to stay on the group plan, you can delay Part B without the Part B penalty.
Please be aware that insurance plans such as COBRA, VA, and FEHB are 𝗡𝗢𝗧 creditable coverages after turning 65!

How much does Part B cost?
The 2024 monthly premium is $174.70 𝗜𝗙 you are 𝗡𝗢𝗧 subject to the IRMAA surcharge (see graphic below for IRMAA surcharge chart).

What is IRMAA?
IRMAA is the Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount. This will be added to your Medicare Part B premium 𝗜𝗙 your income is over $103,000 or $206,000 if filing jointly.
