Working together, we can open doors for ALL of our students to a very bright future! π
To ALL of my supporters,
I want to personally thank all of you for taking this journey with me. With a small and committed group of local volunteers, we set out on a campaign to fight for the privilege to serve ALL children, families, staff, and community for the next four years on the Anoka-Hennepin Board of Education.
People who share my passion, values, and drive joined the campaign with the goal of making certain that ALL children have what they need to learn, grow, and thrive in our schools.
As I reflect on our campaign, I am most proud of the fact that we stayed true to our values. Because we have so much to offer and lift up, there is no shortage of great things to talk about and address regarding the needs of our students and staff. When ugly words were spewed across our story, we said, "NO, thank you." We treated each other and everyone we met on the campaign trail with dignity and respect. We listened. We never went on the attack to spread fear, mislead, or sell doom and gloom.
Instead, throughout our campaign, we honored the people who serve in our school community. We celebrated the great things happening in our schools! We shared our stories and always sent out positive mailings with the intent to inform and bring people into a story of hope and a bright future for our children, families, teachers, and community.
We stayed the course, and here we are!!! I can't overstate how important this election is and the long-term repercussions of its results; not only on the immediate future of our children but for many, many years to come. While we still have much more work to do, I am confident that together, we can continue to open doors for ALL of our students to a very bright and successful future!
If we all do our part and get everyone out to the polls, the children will be looking forward to a very bright future. Weβve worked hard to spread our message; the only thing left to do is VOTE!
Michelle
I am deeply touched by the support of Kate Lundquist, a resident of District 5 with a vested interest in the future of our schools. As a parent to six school-aged children, her endorsement carries the weight of her family's experience and hopes for our education system.
"Electing a competent and knowledgeable representative is crucial to me," says Kate, and I couldn't agree more. It's endorsements like Kate's that reaffirm my commitment to our students and families. With your support, we can ensure success, safety, and integrity in our schools. Thank you, Kate, for trusting in my dedication and vision. Together, we will make a difference!

For more than 30 years, Iβve been on a mission to ensure every child has equitable access to high-quality learning opportunities and the support and resources needed to not only learn but to achieve, grow, and thrive. I care and believe in every child. I truly mean it when I say, βALL means ALL.β
In spite of significant efforts to ensure a positive school culture and climate, there are students who come to school each day feeling like they donβt belong. On the campaign trail, Iβve heard from many voters who have expressed great concern for the safety and well-being of our LGBTQ+ students. Some shared personal stories, while others harkened back to earlier days in Anoka-Hennepin. In my 30 years serving in schools, Iβve seen firsthand the devastating (and sometimes deadly) impact that can result when an LGBTQ+ child is bullied and marginalized. It is heartbreaking.
Conversely, Iβve also seen how important it is for our LGBTQ+ students to see themselves reflected at school - whether it be through a book, a story, or a video. Every student we serve in our schools deserves to not only feel safe and welcome but also to feel that they belong. When students feel like they belong, they are empowered to be the best version of themselves.
As a member of the school board, I will be committed to ensuring that every child being served in our schools is provided with a safe and welcoming environment that fosters their sense of belonging so that they can learn, achieve, grow, and thrive!
I am PROUDLY endorsed by OutFront Minnesota and I PROUDLY support ALL CHILDREN!
Ensuring Every Voice is Heard. π’ Michelle believes in the power of communication. As a candidate for Anoka-Hennepin School Board - District 5, she's advocating for platforms where students, staff, and parents can feel safe, valued and respected when voicing their concerns and perspectives. Make an impactful vote on Nov. 7th; make it count with Michelle!

Making sure our children can read has been a top priority for me for a very long time. As an adjunct instructor for Bethel University, I have been afforded the opportunity to be a member of the Higher Education Literacy Partnership - H.E.L.P. - Science of Reading - Professional Learning Community. H.E.L.P is a βstatewide network of professionals representing public and private higher education, MDE and non-profits, all committed to improving reading skills for struggling readers including dyslexia.β
The partnership between statewide professionals and K12 school districts working together to improve reading outcomes for students, along with other factors, is already showing noteworthy results. Iβve seen the work in action at Monroe. Itβs effective for teachers and for students. Itβs time to grow!

Happy Halloween! π Today, as we celebrate with fun costumes and sweet treats, I'm reminded of the importance of joy, creativity, and community in our lives. Dave and I are really enjoying seeing our grandchildren and all the trick or treaters at our door! They're having so much fun and they've all been so polite! Wishing everyone a safe and delightful Halloween!
Making sense of dataβ¦
One of the important roles of an effective school board member is to make informed decisions based on data. Board members must understand and use data effectively to monitor student progress and evaluate important investments to ensure the best outcomes for students. As with all educators, data-driven decisions are made daily in classrooms, schools, and districts. With 30 years of experience understanding and interpreting data, I know how important it is to recognize that data can be misleading and does not always provide you with the entire picture.
As a school board member, I will always ensure that the data I am looking at actually means what it appears to be by asking questions and analyzing the data to fully and clearly understand both the context and content before making decisions.

Grateful for Huldah Hiltsley and her daughter for door knocking on my behalf! Huldah, you truly are a beacon in our community, and it's inspiring to see the next generation joining in!
βWhen schools and parents work together as valued and trusted partners in education, students achieve more.β Recognizing the important role that parents play in the education of children, I want to work to build strong partnerships and ensure that our parents feel seen, heard, valued and respected for their expertise as partners in education.
While on the campaign trail, I visited with Monroe parents β Dain and Heather Swanson. Iβve gotten to know Heather through my volunteer work at Monroe.
Heather is one of the dynamic duo PTO Co-Presidents at Monroe. Along with Co-President Jui Gadade, they lead a very welcoming, vibrant and active PTO. Working in partnership with Monroe families and staff, Heather and Jui embody the Monroe PTO mission: βWorking together we can make a difference. Learning is required: Get in gear. Getting excellent academic results for all students.β
"It has been an honor to serve on the Anoka-Hennepin School Board representing the students, families, and community members of sub district 5 since 2015. Who holds this seat next is very important to me. I want my school board representative to rise above political noise and agendas; someone who will stay focused on meeting the needs and discovering the potential of each student; someone who understands the complexity of school finance, the history of literacy instruction and initiatives, the difference between governance and operations; and who recognizes the vital importance of bringing all stakeholders to the table for decision making.
For all of these reasons, and more, my vote will go to Dr. Michelle Langenfeld. While others jump on the bandwagon of parental involvement and academic excellence, Michelle has been living and leading it from the classroom as a volunteer and teacher to the board room as a superintendent. These concepts and expectations are embedded in dedicated public education professionals like Michelle. With her vast experience and personal dedication, every member of sub district 5 will be heard, valued, respected, and well-represented. Please join me in voting for Dr. Michelle Langenfeld on or before November 7, 2023."
β Nicole Hayes, Vice Chair, Anoka Hennepin School Board Current Board Member for District 5
I am very honored to earn the vote and support from Nicole Hayes, current Anoka-Hennepin School Board member serving District 5.
As Nicole prepares to conclude her service on January 1, 2024, her legacy of commitment stands strong. Throughout her tenure, she has spent countless hours learning about and supporting the needs of the school communities she serves. Her student-centered decisions are informed, insightful, and responsive to our students, parents, families, teachers, staff and community. As Vice-Chair, she leads with experience and integrity.
Thank you Nicole for your unwavering belief in public education and your commitment to work in partnership with all stakeholders to ensure every child succeeds.

I had the privilege to partner with Barb Sabatke at C**n Rapids Middle School where she served as our volunteer coordinator and crossing guard. With her welcoming βcan doβ spirit, Barb developed a team of volunteers to support our teachers and students. Barb also went above and beyond to provide ways for parents to participate at home and contribute to our schoolβs success. As a crossing guard, Barb was a fierce advocate for student safety! Come rain or shine, she was there with her brightly colored vest.
THANK YOU BARB for all your years of extraordinary service and positive impact on the entire C**n Rapids family!
Barb Sabatke is the parent of three graduates, grandparent of two current students in Anoka-Hennepin.

βIn my first year at CRMS, and coincidentally my first year in this country, I participated in the invention fair at CRMS. This sparked my desire to be a scientist. I continued to participate in the district & regional science fairs for the next two years and won awards both years.
I remember the immense support I received from Dr. Langenfeld throughout my journey, emphasizing her qualities as a highly dependable and compassionate leader. My time at CRMS helped to reemphasize the importance of education, which heavily contributed to my academic success.
I believe Dr. Langenfeld would be a great contributor to the school board because she has displayed a strong desire to utilize her abilities to contribute to the collective good through compassionate leadership, service, respect and courage.β
Raymond Twumasi, Ph. D. Senior Scientist - Pfizer
I am very honored and proud to have the support of our former C**n Rapids Middle School student, Raymond Twumasi, Ph.D. Thank you Dr. Twumasi for the opportunity to be a part of your middle school journey. Thank you also for all you do to improve the lives of so many! From day one it was clear that the sky was not the limit for you, it was just the beginning.
Successfully closing the achievement gap at C**n Rapids MIddle School (CRMS) was the result of the collective impact of staff, students, parents, and community working together to improve student outcomes. When the spring state test scores were shared, we celebrated the progress we made. Standard and Poors recognized CRMS for closing the gap and later, Kevin Corke from NBC Nightly News took notice and paid us a visit to film a news segment called,βWhat Works.β
Fast forward to today. The unacceptable persistent gaps still exist. With a shared purpose and a comprehensive plan that includes measurableresults, I am committed to working collectively with stakeholders to improve student outcomes and address gaps among our students! Working together, we can once again achieve βwhat works!β

The Langenfeld family is really excited to carry on the tradition cheering for our Minnesota Twins in the Divisional Round of the playoffs!!!! Our granddaughters have perfected the perfect cheer!
I have fond memories of going with my family as a kid to watch the Twins play at the old Met Stadium. Sitting in the hot sun in the left field bleachers, the eight of us cheered on our favorite Twins - Harmon Killebrew, Tony Oliva, Ziolo Versailles, Earl Battey, Camilo Pascquel, Mudcat Grant, Bob Allison, Jim Kaat and more. We could name them all. With baseball gloves at the ready, we sat in attention waiting for that elusive home run ball to come our way. While we never did catch a ball, we did hit a home run by just being together as a family creating lasting memories and cheering on our Twins. LetsGoTwins!!! WeBelieve!!!
Not every student's pathway through the workforce goes through traditional academics and a 4-year University. People have different skill sets and learn in many different ways. Hereβs one example of an innovative personalized pathway in manufacturing that resulted in increased opportunities for students and improved outcomes.
Bay Link Manufacturing: While serving in Green Bay, I had the opportunity to partner with many business and higher education leaders who joined me in wanting to improve student outcomes. I am very thankful to Mark Kaiser, the NEW Manufacturing Alliance and Northeast Technical College of Wisconsin who teamed up with the Green Bay Area Public Schools to develop and implement Bay Link Manufacturing at West High School.
Students completing the program find that they not only earn college credit but are well prepared to attend a 2 or 4 year college to pursue post secondary education in engineering and manufacturing or enter the workforce directly.
