dirt . road . track . racing So little back story, I’ve been doing more 4-wheel timing & scoring with the most legit team of programmers, timers and wizards utilizing new technology that the 2-wheel side has never seen. This was several months ago at GT America, Road America. If you’ve seen my other posts, we travel thousands of miles to a racetrack, watch the races on multiple TV screens, in the dark. I see about 10% (straightaway) of the entire track that’s 4+ miles. I see them for a couple seconds hear them go by at 150+ mph, check their race car number and see them click off another lap in timing and scoring. Typically the spectators see the lap count change when they pass the finish line but also see the data constantly moving drivers around the leaderboard as they cross over 1 of 40+ loops. In this particular video, the race director was going to wait until the field has gone by the driver that is off course to control the pack and get a safety car out to collect the car. Little did we know the driver decided to attempt to get back on course, not paying attention to radio calls (most likely because he almost wrecked a multi million dollar car with a brand new factory motor in it.) We have GPS on the cars and drivers so we know their every movement during race day. I see my little dot start to move, I saw to the team, uh oh, he’s moving, we all look to the TV screen on the wall and wham this is what we all see. Technology is awesome and I’m so happy the drivers and teams were all OK in this scenario. How much money in damage do you think this one caused?
