The thyroid should be regularly checked when there’s elevated cholesterol. Thyroid hormones increase bile steroid (cholesterol) secretion. Mucopolysaccharides are increased with low thyroid hormone. Mucopolysaccharides are deposited in the artery wall, even in children, to start atherosclerosis. Before modern thyroid tests of today were developed, cholesterol levels were used to evaluate hypo- or hyperthyroidism. Taking statins to lower cholesterol is not addressing an underlying problem (if there is one). It’s not the cholesterol causing atherosclerosis. CHECK THE THYROID. Additionally, avoiding processed foods, exercising, getting sunlight, managing stress, etc, are things that also need to be considered when talking about preventing and reversing atherosclerosis.

If there are concerns about high cholesterol, go get your thyroid checked. There’s no such thing as GOOD or BAD cholesterol. They both are needed for the body to function properly. If you have concerns about heart disease, stop eating sugar, grains, processed food, processed seed oils. Also, exercise, get sunlight, and learn to play, laugh, and have fun. If you want to know your risk of heart disease, I’d ask your doctor to check these tests to start: fasting insulin, C reactive protein, homocysteine, coronary artery calcification. If your doctor doesn’t know how changing your lifestyle and optimizing the function of other organs can help you decrease the risk of heart issues, then it’s time for a new doctor and a new way of thinking.
