This is most definitely an unpopular opinion that no one asked for. I saw this posted by a fellow momma and my heart broke for those of you who are struggling so hard with breastfeeding, or are made to feel less then because you maybe couldn’t make as much milk, or for personal reasons that are valid you chose not to. That does not make you any less of a mom, and certainly does NOT make you lazy. Mom shaming has to stop. So hear me when I say: - if you are an adopting mom and are providing formula you are an excellent momma -for the mom who survived breast cancer and a mastectomy so needs to give formula, you are an excellent mother -for the survivor of a sexual assault that is unable to breastfeed, you are a warrior momma -for the moms who have PCOS, IGT, other endocrine reasons that produce low milk supply, You are an excellent mother. -for the baby’s who are tied, have jaundice, or are not gaining and need some supplements, your mom is awesome. -to the mom who is struggling with depression and needs a break you are an excellent mother It takes a village 1. You feed a baby in whatever way works 2. Colostrum is made while you are still pregnant around 10-14 weeks and continues till baby is born. When the placenta is delivered your body gets the message to transition into mature milk. This holiday and every day, it is so important that we listen and honor our kids boundaries when it comes to interacting with strangers, Santa, and sometimes even relatives. If your child is not comfortable, don’t force them. LISTEN to them instead! Kids have tremendous instincts and it is our job as their protectors to honor that. Too often we ignore the signs and this is a perfect opportunity to show and teach our children that if you do not feel comfortable with someone touching your body, you can and should say no.
