Do your windows or doors leak during the rain?
Maybe and maybe not. Sliding windows (horizontal and up/down) will naturally allow some water in the tracks at the sill, as weather stripping is not designed to stop water. The tracks are installed with small gaps at the ends, so water will flow under the track and drain outward through an incorporated weep system. The exterior, lower frame will have punched holes (usually about 1” +/- long) where the water drains out.
If the lower tracks fill up and overflow into the house instead of draining outward, there is likely a blockage in the weep holes (bugs or dirt and debris) that can usually be cleared with a straightened paper clip.
It is suggested to NOT leave a towel or rag in the track to soak up water because it will saturate and then wick water onto the sill of the wall or floor. Trust the weep system, but verify it’s working and not overflowing.
Besides potential blockages in the weep system, it is possible in some cases that water could accumulate faster then it can weep, if the window is not designed and rated for the amount of rain and wind.
