Power is an essential factor in achieving success in sport. Research states that power is equal to or more important than strength. Power is defined as force multiplied by velocity, or the product of speed and strength. Having an athlete perform a jump test (vertical/broad jumps and heidens), sprints and medicine ball velocity throws, demonstrates the athlete’s ability to produce power within a very short timeframe. 🏋🏻‍♂️📉REASONS WHY WE TEST AT THE GLG!!🏋🏼📈 Not only does it keep workout efforts high but it creates a competitive environment and allows us to moitor fatigue. Without high effort, it is difficult to move the needle toward power development. ➡️Baseline Date- Provides us with a starting point. It is a collection of data we use to create a plan and measure progress over time. ➡️Monthly Improvements- Nothing better than a good old fashion competition. We average out all reps and see who makes it onto the GLG leaderboard every 3-4 weeks. ➡️Identify Weaknesses- Does the athlete present as being force deficient or velocity deficient. Does the athlete have a power deficiency in a specific plane? ➡️Monitor Athlete Readiness- Fatigue is not simply a feeling of unmotivated sluggishness when heading into a training session. Fatigue is easily displayed by a decrease in force output. If an athlete struggles staying within a percentage of normal testing numbers we will scale back training that day.

However, at what point does the talking stop and the doing start. I've seen many athletes do things into existence and Libby is that athlete. Her goal since the day I met her was to play at ASU. Her plan was derailed after suffering an ACL tear. Coming back from an injury like that is is extremely difficult. Not only from a physical standpoint but also from a mental and emotional standpoint. I've witnessed her through blood, sweat and tears fight her way back to the elite athlete thst she is. She is the embodiment of sheer will, determination and true grit. What an unbelievable day for GLG members @officialmikeking and @jpena221 showing out for the 401. King was electric coming in killing the Red Sox momentum pitching 2 innings while striking out 3 and only allowing 1 hit to earn himself the win. Pena picks up his first MLB hit during the second inning and continued to go off hitting a double and a homerun while the announcers were interviewing his parents. We have four core stability exercise categories that we utilize within the gym: anterior core stability, posterior core stability, lateral core stability, and rotary core stability. Anterior core stability exercises teaches the body to resist excessive lumbar spine extension (arching). Fallouts/Rollouts are a great anterior core training progression. This sneaky little 🌶 progression for Rollouts shows just how strong @nick_raposo is. Going to a single-leg stance makes this an awesome rotary stability and lateral core challenge, too. Certainly doesn’t look as sexy or entertaining as some exercises but sometimes the simplest of variations make a huge difference. When you are as strong as Raposo you need to keep some progressions in your back pocket. For years at the GLG we have worked on sprint mechanics along with adding sprint work to each individuals workout. Even though sprint work was programmed often times athletes would only reach between 60-80% max speed. After a great conversation with @grobbins we decided to try something different within each athletes warm up. Once an athletes warm up is finished they complete (3) timed 10- yard sprints and is recorded on our leaderboard 🏃‍♂️ Why ten yard sprints you ask? 🏃‍♀️ Considering most baseball movements that are performed in-game are in a 5-10-yard box in all directions, there are a multitude of benefits and overlaps.. Benefits —> Combination of: ⁃ Starting strength ⁃ Maximal strength ⁃ acceleration ⁃ starting strength ⁃ maximal strength ⁃ power and explosiveness. Suggested Data: it is clear that there are similarities between lower half power and acceleration to throwing velocity. Good 10 yard dash and/or broad jump doesn’t always ≠ throwing velocity. Identifying the deficiencies and leaks in the throwing delivery is synonymous Developing the engine of the athlete from the ground up can not only help achieve higher throwing velocity, but also take away stress from the arm due to more energy production from the lower half. ⏱ Why Timed Sprints? ⏱ Are the athletes really running as fast as they can if they aren’t being timed. Competing is a lot of fun. Are you truly training acceleration and deceleration if the athletes isn’t working at top speed? 🤔

PAP also known as Post-Activation Potential style of training is a great way to develop power. Usually a pairing of a heavy load or isometric exercise and an explosive (plyometric) movement. In this video I have Luis DeLeon performing a :10sec Trap Bar Deadlift Iso Hold followed by a :10sec Prone Hamstring Tantrum. Isometrics(ISO): exercises where the muscles are producing force without movement. They can be achieved by either pushing/pulling against an immovable resistance or by holding a weight in a certain position. Isometric exercises serve two functions: 1). Stability 2). Transfer of energy Explosive (plyometric) movement: The prone hamstring tantrum has one of the highest levels of hamstring recruitment. I love tantrum variations for high speed hamstring work.

The hamstring slide outs is a great exercise that helps increase hamstring strength at more vulnerable joint positions. If you play any sport that involves sprinting you’ll benefit greatly from this exercise. The hamstring slide out is an eccentric movement that produces a lot of muscle tension. There is evidence that shows that eccentrics help tap in to fast twitch muscle fibres, something which the hamstrings have plenty of. Hamstring injuries are not only one of the most common sporting injuries, but they also have the highest incidence rate of re injury over any other injury. Two main types of hamstring injuries: 1. Occurs due to high speed running 2. Occurs due to excessive lengthening The hamstring play a vital role in acceleration and deceleration of an athlete. @jacklarose does an amazing job with this exercise while keeping a neutral spine something that he has struggle
