Building confidence helps children recognize their strengths, opportunities, and abilities to thrive.
By playing simple games like stacking cups in a race against time, children can practice determination and overcoming a challenge. The more your child overcomes simple challenges, the greater their confidence will be.
Here are some more ideas of simple, fun “minute to win it” style games to play with your child to build their confidence:
🍪 Cookie Monster: Invite your child to put a cookie on their forehead. Without using their hands, they will attempt to move the cookies from their forehead to their mouth.
💰 Penny Tower: Have your child attempt to stack as many pennies as possible in one minute.
🥛 Cup Stack: Give your child 1 minute to stack 36 cups. To increase the difficulty, challenge them to stack and then unstack all 36 cups in the allotted time. A variation of this game is to stack the cups in a pyramid shape (shown in video above) as quickly as possible.
🌬 Feather Breath: Invite children to keep a feather in the air for one minute by blowing on it to keep it from falling to the ground.
After playing these games, review the concept of determination and how your child used it to complete the tasks. Discuss any challenges that arose and how they overcame them.

Challenge your child to be creative in a fun, new way! 🎨 Ask your child to think beyond a paintbrush and come up with unique ways to put paint to paper. While there are plenty of examples in the reel above—such as a sponge, a fork, a pepper, and an apple—we bet your child can come up with even more! Take this creative challenge a step further by inviting your child outdoors to find nature items that can be used both as a painting tool or as part of a creation. Save this post for reference and let us know in the caption the creative ways in which your child finds a way to paint! Is your child curious about how plants get water from the soil? Use this capillary action caterpillar experiment from our proprietary Life Essentials® curriculum to teach them about it at home! 🐛 Start by discussing the process of watering a plant. Explain that the roots draw in the water like a straw. That water inches up the stem of the plant in a process called capillary action. Materials: • 3 clear cups filled no more than ½ full of water • Paper towels • 3 colors of food coloring • Rubber bands Directions: 1. Encourage your child to add a few drops of food coloring to the water in the cups. Add a different color to each cup. 2. Invite the child to twist thick paper towels and secure each end with a rubber band. 3. Connect each cup with a paper towel. Be sure not to submerge the entire paper towel. Simply have your child place the ends of the towels into two cups like an arch. 4. Check on the capillary action caterpillar throughout the day. As you wait for the results, watch as your child’s curiosity continues to grow!
