Congrats, UGA, on another championship! UGA seemed to be on everyone's application list last year, and I don't see that slowing down.

In a college essay, posing a question can be more powerful than having everything all figured out. See these two excerpts:

The examples below are sure to impress admissions.

In the Georgia Tech excerpt, the student doesn't merely state but also "proves" his interest and capability in the field of engineering by discussing the rigorous S.T.E.A.M. program he participates in as a high school student.

In the Parsons excerpt, the student demonstrates that she has done her research about Parsons' values and knows that she is a perfect fit for their fashion program. She goes on to give examples proving her credibility.

Of course, I made sure they relayed their credentials clearly and grammatically. Neither one of these particular students had a creative "voice" - and that's okay! Their essays were true to their style.

Last week, I kicked off my first session of the summer with a rising senior who needed help organizing her many ideas and credentials. It was mostly a brainstorming session, and along the way I was able to help her choose a focus (her volunteer work in high school) and three specific experiences she'd like to share with admissions. I always follow up sessions by e-mailing parents and students with organizational notes over everything we discussed + next steps.

As a college essay tutor, I'm happy to help at any point of your writing process, from choosing which topic would best demonstrate your strengths to polishing your final draft.

2022-2023 Common App Essay Prompts The Common App essay prompts will remain the same for 2022-2023. Because as we enter the third year of a global pandemic, consistency is not a bad thing.
