Four years ago today, a dear friend came over to my house and opened my eyes to the world of block printing. As I learned about this centuries-old textile printing technique, we poured a glass of sparkling rose and celebrated because I knew the dream of Mended was born. After four years and a lot of learning, I can confidently say three things: 1) there would be no Mended without you, our customers, 2) the amount of joy I have in doing this work is overwhelming and 3) the lives of over 14 survivor artisan families in South Asia are significantly better because of the work we get to do together.

Thank you for being on this journey with us. We hope you’ll stick around because we’re just getting started.

Four years ago today, I received 1,000 face masks made by an incredibly brave survivor of modern-day slavery in South Asia named Varalakshmi. After meeting her the fall before, I learned that she was making masks for her community when the pandemic hit. The decision to purchase these masks from her was instrumental in the dream of Mended. I was so thrilled to give her work but I couldn’t concept my next move. Ten days later, I would learn about block printing.

Bandanas are for handbags. A recent customer purchased a colorful bandana for her daughter heading off to college. She bought it as a send-off gift to remind her of home and also to help her spot her handbag as she shuffles through the crowd of girls during Rush. We thought this was such a sweet idea!

Our Bandana folding pro-tips:
- Always begin by folding into a triangle, tag corner to opposite corner. [This tucks the tag into the center of the roll as opposed to peaking out]
- Roll from the short edge of triangle towards long edge. [This creates a more uniform roll]

Summer would not have been Summer without our Seaside hut! The 30A Pop-up District has been the most fun, and we are excited we will be staying through October! So there’s still time to get that beach-side cocktail in your new Sarong. Come see us!

Today, I’m grateful to live in a country with a foundation of freedom and I’m grateful to get to do work that makes “freedom” a more secure reality for our partners across the globe. This is the note that I sent to our survivor artisans this week. We’re so grateful for and and their ongoing fight to end human trafficking.

Team, this is Tim Tebow. Tim is a former professional football player and currently runs a company, runs a non-profit, speaks all over the world and frequently appears on television. His passion in life is speaking up for the vulnerable population. He recently testified before US Congress on behalf of child abuse victims. It was incredibly powerful and his words and actions are helping protect children all over the globe. I want you each to know that while he testified, he wore the pocket square that you block printed.
