🚧TXDOT update regarding HWY 80 next week

FORNEY: Weather permitting, the following are scheduled.

🚧 All lanes of westbound US 80 will be closed at FM 460/Clements Drive from 8:30 p.m. Monday, August 19 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, August 20. Traffic will be detoured to the frontage road.
🚧All lanes of eastbound US 80 will be closed at FM 460/Clements Drive from 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 20 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, August 21. Traffic will be detoured to the frontage road.

Texas Health Resources, the health system that cares for more North Texans than any other, is expanding services in Kaufman County, including building a new full-service hospital and on-campus medical office building in Forney.

The new hospital, to be built on 50 acres located along Highway 80, will be the first full-service acute care hospital in the city of Forney and will be designed for additional expansion for future needs.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2027. The hospital will offer an emergency room, operating suites, a labor and delivery department, a variety of imaging services as well as additional services to provide the full continuum of care to the growing community.

Reminder: Our Utility Billing office has officially relocated to 402 North Bois D Arc (behind the post office). Regular office hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. For your convenience, there’s also a drop box located outside.

Most people water their yards too often. Even in the hottest summer months, your yard only needs to be watered 2X a week or less. Set up your controller to water 2X a week, start your system early in the morning (never water in the heat of the day), and use the cycle and soak method of watering. In other words, water a little now, let it soak in, and then water a little more. It saves water and helps your yard get what it needs. Try to reprogram your controller this weekend! Weather permitting, eastbound US 80 will be narrowed to one lane between Lawson Road and FM 460/Clements Drive from 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 to 6 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, as part of the ongoing US 80 improvement project.

Once completed, traffic will be shifted. Drivers will need to use caution as traffic adjusts to the new configuration.

This work is part of the ongoing $129 million construction project awarded to Webber, LLC. The project is anticipated for overall completion in spring 2026, weather permitting.

On Thursday, August 8th, our Public Works Department, in collaboration with Union Pacific, will conduct essential work on the medians at the Chestnut Railroad Crossing. This project ensures the medians meet the required safety measures in order to reestablish the downtown quiet zone. As a result, S Chestnut between Broad St and Main St will be closed from 7 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m. We ask residents to plan accordingly and use alternate routes during this time.

PUBLIC INPUT IS NEEDED FOR FM 460 AND FM 740 IN KAUFMAN COUNTY STARTING JULY 29
KAUFMAN COUNTY – The Texas Department of Transportation will host both a in-person and virtual public meeting on the proposed project of FM 460 from FM 740 t0 Us 80 and FM 740 from Ranch Road to Maverick Drive in Kaufman County to seek public input on the project.

The in-person public meeting will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 29, at Keith Bell Opportunity Central, 680 Innovation Blvd, Forney, TX 75126. The meeting will be an open house format where the public can come and go at their convenience.
The virtual public meeting will launch at 5 p.m. Monday, July 29 at www.keepitmovingdallas.com/projects/fm-roads/fm460-fm740. The virtual meeting is not a live event.
The same information will be available at both the in-person and virtual meetings.

The proposed project would reconstruct and widen FM 460 between US 80 and FM 740, and FM 740 between Ranch Road and Maverick Drive in Kaufman County from a two-lane roadway to a four (ultimate six lane) divided highway. A continuous sidewalk will be provided on one side of the proposed roadway alignment and a continuous shared use path on the other side. The roadway passes through the cities of Forney and Heath.
