Eating Freely

Nutrition to honor & glorify God
Food freedom with Jesus✝️
Balance, variety, moderation
What is the one key thing that is missing from most people's pursuit of health?🤔
Surrender to Jesus!!
We think another diet will fix us. We think losing x pounds would fix us. We think more exercise will fix us.
But the truth is, Jesus is the only one that can fix us. Pursuing health and wellness is not the issue.
But sometimes, we think pursuing those things will somehow fix our loneliness, low self-esteem, poor body image, rejection, pain, sadness, etc.
When in reality, they can't do that. Only true surrender to Jesus can. When we find our identity in Jesus and invite Him in, we can begin to heal. Then, we can pursue health and wellness in the way God intended.
But if we don't pursue God, we just keep going in circles, looking for the next thing to fulfill us.
Maybe it's time you surrender the problems and issues you have been dealing with to God.

Today we remember the day Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins. A sinless man took on the weight of all the sins of humanity, including past, present, and future. This ultimate sacrifice then led to the resurrection of Jesus so we have the opportunity to have eternal life with Him.
This day reminds me that without Jesus' death and resurrection, I would be forever lost. The sins I have committed would be a permanent stain. My mistakes and failures could have been what defined me.
But thankfully, because of Jesus, I am free. I have hope. My sins are forgiven. I will have eternal life with Him. I am defined by the blood of Jesus Christ. I live for Him because He's the way, the truth, and the life. My life is worth nothing without Him.
So to those out there struggling with the weight of your mistakes, failures, and sins, remember that we have a Savior that can wash us clean.
But you have to choose Him. You have to accept Him and invite Him into your life. He's waiting for you. He's knocking on your door. Will you open it?
Happy Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day! I am so thankful and blessed to be a dietitian.
Thank you to all the dietitians out there who are changing lives for the better! Dietitians truly don't get the recognition they deserve. People don't realize that nutrition is beyond meal plans or weight loss.
Thank you, Lord, for giving me this opportunity and ability to reach others through nutrition. I'm honored to be in this profession and God gets all the glory.
Can I share a secret?🤫
You can't take care of your physical body well unless you put God first. I'm not saying that means neglecting your physical health, but what I am saying is that you can't put your physical health above God. You can't serve two masters.
When we put nutrition and exercise above Him, it leads to a disordered relationship with food and our bodies. It sends us into slavery and bandage.
When you put God first, He shows you what it means to take care of your physical health. He helps you take care of the body He gave you. He leads you to treat your body as a temple.
"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come"
1 Timothy 4:8 NIV

If you are new here, welcome to my page! I would like to take this post to introduce myself more formally and give you some more information about me and what this account is about. And since it is eating disorder awareness week, I thought it would be a perfect week to introduce myself.
In a quick nutshell, I started this page because I believe part of my calling is to help others with their nutrition. Most importantly, I want to teach and educate others about how we can use food and nutrition to honor God and the bodies He gave us.
My interest and passion for nutrition started with a genuine interest to be healthier but quickly spiraled into a full-blown eating disorder that started in high school and lasted into my early college years. By discovering Jesus and bringing Him to the center of my life, I was able to fully recover.
I give all the glory to God for breaking my chains and guiding me into His truth and freedom where I can live out the purpose and plan He has for me. I pursued nutrition through my education and am a registered and licensed dietitian nutritionist.
That being said, everything that I went through has taught me the importance of not only nutrition but also honoring God in it. He wants us to take care of our bodies, honor Him through our nutrition and exercise, and treat our bodies as His temple.
My goal and mission with this page is to empower you to do that. So whether you are struggling with an eating disorder, wanting a healthier relationship with food, needing to make changes to your eating habits, deciding to make your nutrition as a priority, or looking to gain a Biblical perspective on food and nutrition, this page is for you.
If you have read this far, thank you for taking the time to do so! I used to carry a lot of shame surrounding my past, but now I know that sharing my testimony and experiences, as well as my expertise as a dietitian, is part of my purpose. God turned my mess into a message and even if only one person is impacted by it, it's worth it.

Are you treating your body as a living sacrifice to God?
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own."
1 Corinthians 6:19 NIV

This needs to be talked about more when bringing awareness to eating disorders.
Undereating or being underweight can lead to a number of health problems. Some of them include weak and brittle bones that can lead to osteopenia or osteoporosis, s*x hormone issues like amenorrhea in women, disrupted thryoid hormones, heart disease or failure, electrolyte imbalances, poor metabolism, poor digestion, liver inflammation, insomnia, brain fog, high cholesterol, hair loss, dehydration, anemia, slowed healing, increased risk of infections, brain shrinkage, difficulty thinking and concentrating, reduced heart rate, infertility, and poor mental health.
There are many more that aren't listed. Many people don't realize the impact malnourishment has on the body. Physical healing through proper nutrition is a necessity in recovery. When you choose recovery, you choose life. We can't live out the purpose God has planned for us if we are undernourished!

Here are 5 things that I wish I knew before starting eating disorder recovery.
#1 Recovery is not easy. It is a decision that you have to make over and over again. One day may feel great, and the next day you may feel like everything is going wrong. But it is so worth it. I don't even recognize the person that I used to be deep in the chains of an eating disorder. My life has completely changed for the better because I chose God and recovery.
#2 You can't serve God and have food and your body be idols. God can't work in you or through you if you're devoting your life to something else. God has more for your life than obsessing over food and body image.
#3 The people in your life that are telling you that you need help and are showing concern are right. They aren't against you. They genuinely care about you and want the best for you. God is using them to help you. You may be blind to your behavior and the damage it's doing.
#4 God can absolutely heal you overnight, but that may not always happen. Recovery is a process. Keep going. If you fall down, get back up. Things will get better.
#5 There will come a day where the things that you used to obsess over don't bother you anymore. Food becomes something you enjoy and use to take care of your body. You'll get to eat your favorite foods again without thinking about how many calories are in them or how you'll burn it off later.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made. God designed you perfectly. Your worth is more than some number on a scale.
"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."
Ephesians 2:10 NLT
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
Psalms 139: 13-14 NIV
Here are 5 key areas that make up the bulk of what is involved with eating disorder recovery. It includes addressing the spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional aspects. Addressing all of these combined leads to a successful recovery.
Recovery is a process and everyone is unique, so it looks a bit different for each individual. Your recovery may not look like someone else's, and that's ok.
Ultimately, when you surrender to God and make the decision to recover, He will help you with the next steps. Ask Him to lead and guide you through every step of the process. Your healing is on the way!
The way we view food and our relationship with it can either benefit our lives or slowly destroy them. When your relationship with food is healthy, your physical, mental, social, and emotional health benefits. But when you have a poor relationship with food, your physical, mental, social, and emotional health suffers.
God didn't design us to fear food or use it as a way of coping. Food isn't supposed to be an obsession.
Once God opened my eyes to how my relationship with food was slowly leading my life down a path of destruction, I realized I had to make a change. I no longer wanted to live my life fearing food, being obsessed with my body image, and missing out on all that God had for my life.
So ask yourself this question: What path is my relationship with food leading me to? A path of abundant life and longevity? Or a path of damage and destruction?
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
John 10:10 ESV

In order to step into true freedom, you have to know your identity. No, it is not the lie of an identity you have believed for so long about yourself nor is it your job or your circumstances. I'm talking about your true identity in Jesus Christ. It's time to believe that you are loved, you are a Child of God, and that you have purpose. Your true identity lies in who God says you are.
And that's the only identity that matters truthfully. The world says we are defined by our jobs, careers, money we make, people we know, how successful we are, the family we are born into, etc. But that's where we get into trouble. When we place our identity in worldly things, it's no wonder we are disappointed, depressed, anxious, and unsatisfied. I'm telling you, from personal experience, that because I placed my identity in something I was never meant to, I developed an eating disorder. I believed the lie that I was defined by the way I looked and what I could accomplish. If I had believed and truly lived out my true identity in Jesus, that eating disorder would have never took me captive. I had a dream a few weeks ago that I believe was from the Lord that reminded me of my true identity. I remember it was night time and I went into a room with little kids sleeping. One of those kids was me, about maybe between 5 and 7 years old. I was looking at my younger self sleeping on a couch. I (now a 25 year old woman) picked up my younger self like a baby in my arms and whispered something along the lines of "you are loved and chosen". Then I woke up from the dream. That wrecked me and I still tear up thinking about it. If only I could have realized that at that age and stood on that identity though my teenage years and into young adulthood. It made me realize that once you know you are loved and chosen and truly believe and live it out, you can be free. I can't admit that I am perfect about living this out every moment now, but I'm thankful for God's grace and mercy who through my own struggles, showed me that I am the daughter of the most high King who has a beautiful purpose and life planned for me because I choose to follow Him.
First things first. What I'm about to say is super important for not only recovery from an eating disorder, but in every area of our lives. We must speak life over ourselves. If all we say and speak are negative things, we start to believe them and they affect our actions. So stop saying things like "I'll never overcome this", "I'll never be enough", "I'm not beautiful", etc...... Start telling yourself you are an overcomer, you are loved, you are beautiful. Even if you don't believe those things, start saying them. What you say affects your thoughts, beliefs, and actions and you'll eventually start to believe what you say. The Bible says there is life and death in the power of the tongue. Words have power and they do matter. Start telling yourself the truth about who God says you are and I guarantee it will change your life. In my own recovery, the more I reminded myself and spoke truth about who I really am, the more I believed those things. I then realized where my true identity lies, in Jesus. More on identity coming soon.
Proverbs 18:21 NIV
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
