The ORIGINAL Braille Fashion Jewelry You’ll Fall in Love With! ~ Since 2001

In 2001, when my older son was four years old, I set out to learn as much as I could about braille literacy in order to support our older son in his reading acquisition. At the time I was also making and selling jewelry as I had done at various times in my life from about the age of 10. The closer I came to learning the braille alphabet, the more I imagined seeing braille everywhere! One night making jewelry, I realized some little findings I used in my finished pieces had tiny dot patterns on them - that looked like braille! Turns out granulation (little decorative balls of metal) has been around for centuries. It’s attributed to the Etruscans in the first century B.C., in what is now Italy.set out to find a place to have my heart pendant made. At the time I wasn’t doing my own casting, and we didn’t have a computer at home - the Internet was still in its infancy, so looking was much trickier than it is, now!

One day, while selling my jewelry at a local Starbuck’s, two men came to look. They talked to me about the jewelry I’d made, and the pieces of mass-produced jewelry I also sold, and then they explained that they made mass-produced jewelry, too. In China. Speed through two months of learning and talking, and I was flying to Shanghai to begin production of the world’s first line of mass-produced braille jewelry, scheduled for arrival Stateside in early February 2002!
