Doctor Spotlight: Meet Dr. Wimbish!

Born and raised in Fort Worth, Dr. Wimbish is the embodiment of southern hospitality and genuine care. Dr. Wimbish graduated from Nolan High School and went on to attend Texas A&M University. With a degree in Biomedical Science and a minor in psychology, he cultivated a strong foundation for his future in optometry.

Driven by a profound interest in science and a heartfelt passion for helping others, Dr. Wimbish pursued his optometry education at the University of Houston College of Optometry. It was during this time that he met his wife, who also practices optometry. Together, they are proud parents to three wonderful children and call Allen their home.

Dr. Wimbish feels fortunate to contribute to the community by helping others see the world more clearly. His dedication goes beyond optometry; he actively builds friendships within this great community, creating lasting connections with patients.

A proud Aggie, Dr. Wimbish loves cheering on Texas A&M football. However, his true joy comes from spending quality time with his family. Active in his church, Cottonwood Creek Baptist, Dr. Wimbish embodies the values of community and compassion.

Dr. Wimbish's commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Texas Optometric Association. Additionally, he was recognized as the "Best Optometrist in Allen" by the votes of the residents of Allen, as featured in the Allen American.

Mark your calendars for Monday, April 8th, when a total solar eclipse will cross North America! While the temptation to witness this might be irresistible, please remember the importance of safety precautions.

Given the duration of an eclipse, which can span several hours, repeated gazes towards the sun can potentially expose the retina to harmful radiation. This cumulative exposure poses a risk, as it may lead to temporary or, in more severe cases, even permanent damage to the retina.

With this being said, it's very important for you to exercise caution and wear proper eye protection when observing a solar eclipse to safeguard your vision and prevent any adverse effects. For a limited time, we will be offering FREE eclipse-safe glasses to anyone that follows us on Facebook or Instagram!

To view the solar eclipse safely, please follow the steps below:

👉Wear eclipse safety glasses (get yours from AllenEye.com!).
👉Do NOT view an eclipse with regular sunglasses.
👉Be sure the filters aren't scratched, punctured, torn, loose, or damaged.
👉If you use a telescope or binoculars, you must investigate the proper filters - DO NOT use without filters.

Doctor Spotlight: Meet Dr. Bean!

Dr. Richelle Bean was born in Kansas but came to Texas as soon as possible, moving first to the panhandle in Amarillo, Texas and then moving to Carrollton, Texas where she graduated from Hebron High School.

She then attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and graduated Cum Laude with a bachelors in biology and minor in psychology.

Dr. Bean obtained her optometry degree as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honors Society at the University of Houston College of Optometry and she completed her first internship in Houston, Texas, where she specialized in pediatric optometry care and specialty contact lens fitting. She then felt the need to move back home to DFW and completed her second internship emphasizing on the management of ocular disease in Dallas, Texas. She is a certified Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist.

While Dr. Bean was in optometry school she met her husband, Phil, at a Jimmy Buffett concert and they now have beautiful family!

Dr. Bean is an active member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Texas Optometric Association (TOA).

Doctor Spotlight: Meet Dr. Bourque!

Dr. Lori Bourque was born and raised in Louisiana. In search of a medical profession that provided a good work/life balance, she followed her dad’s advice, and began researching the field of optometry. With lots of studying and prayers, God paved the way to the University of Houston, College of Optometry where she would become an optometrist AND meet her future husband, Dr. John Wimbish.

In 1997, Dr. Bourque graduated and entered into a partnership with Dr. Thomas Ballard, owner of First Eye Care Dallas. Over the next 22 years, they focused on their mission - which was to treat patients and employees the way they’d wanted to be treated - and the practice expanded to 5 locations, 10 doctors and over 60 employees. In the meantime, John and Lori were busy and blessed, balancing their careers and raising three amazing children -Weston, Addison, and Aaron.

In 2020, Drs. Ballard and Bourque sold their practices, and Dr. Bourque jumped on board with AllenEye.com as soon as she could! She is thrilled that after 25 years of practicing, she finally gets to work with her husband, Dr. Wimbish, her optometry school classmate, Dr. Lollar, and the other wonderful associates in the practice.

Dr. Bourque enjoys learning about each of her patient’s interests and hobbies so that she can tailor her treatment recommendations to provide the clearest vision possible, & improve their quality of life. She is especially excited to serve within the community she lives. Being mindful that the gifts God has equipped her with are to be used, not only in providing the gift of sight, but also the gift of Him, she has and will continue to be “on mission” both locally and globally.
