Yes I Am Type 1, a nonprofit organization, was established in honor of our daughter Isabella and her passion to help others dealing with Type 1 Diabetes. Isabella was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (TD1) on July 15, 2015 while on a family road trip. While visiting Zapata Falls and the Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado, Isabella became very lethargic and was taken to the nearest emergency room
in Alamosa, CO. After an immediate admission to the hospital the doctors informed Isabella and her family that she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and needed to be transported to children’s hospital where they could provide her with better care. Not long after, Isabella and Mom boarded a medical jet plane Denver bound. Thirty Six minutes of flying over the Rocky Mountains they arrived at Children’s Hospital in Aurora, CO. Dad and brother drove 4 hours to meet up with them. The next couple of days Isabella and her family attended classes on how to care for her at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. When discharged to go home, Isabella’s parents asked her if she wanted to go home or continue with the road trip, and Isabella said she wanted to keep going. The family ended up going to Mount Rushmore, SD. and back to the Great Sand Dunes National Park in CO. to do some sandboarding! And every since then Isabella has displayed that nothing is going to stop her. Isabella has resumed all her regular activities such as cheer, gymnastics, tumbling, biking, swimming, traveling, having sleepovers and eating junk food!
