Hispanic Organization for Genealogy and Research - HOGAR
Welcome to all who are interested in the research of their Hispanic ancestors! We meet quarterly throughout the year. Meeting dates to be posted here.
We had a fabulous time with all attendees at Saturday's Genealogy for the Hispanic Community 🎉 The sister team of Jo Ann Valentin and Gloria Cantu led the group through the "basics" of Hispanic genealogy research. One exciting moment came during the "How To Search Online" part of the presentation. One attendee, who was in the beginning stages of his family research, offered his basic family info to Ms. Cantu to input into the FamilySearch database. In a few seconds, she was able to pull up that attendee's grandparents' family trees and a wealth of his ancestor information that he was able to see for the first time. He was amazed. We were all happy for him!
Another memorable moment came during breaktime. After discussing their family research with one another, a couple of attendees found out they're probably cousins.🙂 These types of discoveries are what make genealogy research so intriguing.
HOGAR held the presentation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read program. The South Irving Library presented everyone with a free copy of "The Bear" by Andrew Krivak. It was a wonderful gift. We look forward to reading the book.
Stay tuned so you can join us for our next event.
