Meet the instrument! 🎵 The xylophone is a staple in music therapy sessions and music classrooms alike. A xylophone is a long percussion instrument with wooden bars that is played by hitting the bars with small hammer-like mallets. Each bar is tuned to a different note. It is a very accessible instrument for kids to play and helps with fine motor skills and control. 🌩️ Is your kiddo scared of storms? Make thunderstorms more fun with two child-friendly instruments: the thunder tube and rainstick. The thunder tube uses a spring and a circle motion to create the big sounds of thunder. A rainstick is a long, hollow tube partially filled with small pebbles, beans, or balls. One of KidLinks' wonderful music therapists, Cora, recently began a six week family music therapy group. These are all clients that Cora has been working with one-on-one, but could also benefit from a group setting with other young children. Through the group, families (including siblings) get to meet other families, and they learn new ways to use music at home with their child, often using strategies that are specific to their child's needs. It's a fun environment for clients to work on social skills and to get modeling for communication and movement from their parents, caretakers, peers, and other adults.
