New trainer/class alert 🚨
We will now be offering a class that introduces the foundations of strength and conditioning. This is an optimal course for those interested in beginning their fitness journey. The program will provide a great opportunity for beginners to learn the fundamentals of functional movement patterns.
Natalie graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a bachelors degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in applied exercise science in 2023. She completed internships with URI’s Strength & Conditioning and Athletic Training & Sports Medicine departments for their Division 1 sports. She has experience as a personal trainer for 2 years, working with all ages in Chatham and East Greenbush, NY. Natalie competed on the club crew team during her time at URI. Throughout middle and high school she played soccer and competed in track and field at New Lebanon High school, along with 15 years of dance in the Berkshires. Currently Natalie is interning at The Recovery Room in Pittsfield to learn more about sports medicine.

‼️ Make sure that you sign up for our challenge if you want to support Jake Galliher’s wife and kids during these hard times! ‼️
🔴 The sign up link is in my bio. Fill out the form, Venmo $30 and coordinate a team of 5! Each team will be asked to have a costume, theme or color. If you are not able to field a full team, please let me know and we will find one for you!

🔵 This challenge will be friendly to everyone and will be significantly more “fun” than the Halloween challenge was last year. What I mean by this is that we are going to have more games rather than fitness challenges in this year’s fundraiser.

I am very excited to announce that we will be expanding our Ripcity Strength staff with the addition of Juan! Juan Carlos is a personal trainer/strength & conditioning coach with a B.S. in Applied Exercise Science from Springfield College. After graduation, Juan Carlos was able to become a personal trainer at Southeast Kettlebell, training a variety of individuals from youth, adult, elderly, and athletes. Now, he is moving his services to RIP City Academy to train people individually and in groups. This year we will be introducing our first annual Halloween Rip City Challenge! The money that is raised through this challenge will go towards the development of local athletes. Our goal is to raise enough money to make an impact on the kids in our community that are not able to afford our training.
We will be hosting this fundraiser in honor of my grandfather David McNeice and my great grandfather Bernard Auge.
Football and athletics were always David’s passion. He played as a youth and later coached at St. Joseph High School and Taconic High School. In 1970 he was inducted in the Hall of Fame at the Monday Morning Quarterback Annual Banquet, and in 2011 he was inducted in the CSP Inaugural Hall of Fame Event. He strongly believed that with hard work and discipline, you could train yourself to become whatever you want to be.
Similar to David, Bernard also takes pride in athletics. Bernard grew up in North Adams playing football and baseball for Drury High School. He also was a speed skater and almost an Olympic finalist! Out of high school he earned a football scholarship to play at Williams College. His dream school had always been Notre Dame and they were on a 4-year football championship streak at the time. This was also his best option for pre-med so he decided to take his talents to Notre Dame! Before he was able to actually play a game, he was sent to navy boot camp to prepare for WW2. Through this experience, he gained perspective and understanding that athletics are a privilege that can be taken from you at any moment.
The qualities and mentality that both Bernie and David brought to Berkshire County athletics are ones that I want to pass on to the next generation of athletes. With perspective, discipline and hard work, I believe that anything is possible and I hope to relay this message to our athletes in Berkshire County.
Further details will be in the comment section and the link will be in my bio due to a word restriction!

Why do we use Isometrics and what are they?

An isometric is essentially just a muscle contraction without motion. I tend to incorporate these movements during the early stages of my programs for various reasons.

1.) Coaching/correcting movement
- I feel like I am able to coach movement the best when an athlete is forced to remain at a lengthened position. While in these positions I am able to see imbalances, core weakness and poor pelvic tilt. These are three of the most common mistakes that athletes make during their first week on a strength program so this is the best time to iron them out! Also, athletes like to rush through lifts when they are just starting to avoid being “called out”. This allows me to slow them down and make sure that their form is correct.

2.) Strengthen connective tissue
- Isometrics aid in tendon stiffness. You might think that this sounds counterintuitive but in the grand scheme of things, we want our tendons to be stiff and joints to be mobile. This stiffness allows for proper energy storage and the contract/relax portion of a jump/intensive isometric to occur. (Also important for overall joint health even if you do not plan on jumping)

3.) Gain motor control and get weirdly strong in vulnerable positions
- Before diving into heavy weight or high volume it is important that you build strength at these specific isometric angles so that you can learn how to activate certain muscle groups and become comfortable in different positions.

These are 3 of the many reasons why I incorporate isometrics towards the beginning of my programs. I hope that you found this information helpful in understanding why we incorporate Iso’s! 💪🫡

We are back!

First week back we like to test our athletes to see where they are at physically and mentally. This week will consist of a mobility screen that is used at the MLB level. We will be measuring the 5 tools (run, throw, field, contact, power). Each athlete will receive a defense and offense video breakdown from our staff.

Rip City Strength & Conditioning will also be testing our athletes this week. Make sure you go check it out!

We are excited to be back in the swing of things. Please feel free to reach out or stop by the facility. ✌🏻
