Each person is given an equal sized slice of watermelon. 🧅Have you ever dyed eggs with onion skins before?🌿 @northwoodsfolk simply used onion skins, but you can also use other foods like cabbage, turmeric, spinach, blueberries, tea, and coffee grounds. For these, you’ll need: Eggs Pantyhose (thrift stores often have unused ones!) Assorted fresh plants, herbs, or flowers Lots of onion skins. Start by boiling red or yellow onion skins in a lot of water. I don’t have exact measurements, but I’d say it’s about 2 cups of onion skins to 8 cups water - so a 1:4 ratio. Maybe a bit more water. The more onion skins, the darker the pigment. Boil for 30 minutes before adding 1/4 cup vinegar. While the dye is boiling, cut some old pantyhose into 3-4” segments. Tie one end tightly. Place botanical on raw egg and tie the other end of the pantyhose segment tightly. Make sure it’s as tight as you can get it or this method won’t work! Place eggs in boiling dye and cook for 10-12 minutes, depending on desired level of doneness. Remove and place in ice water bath for a few minutes before carefully removing pantyhose. Better yet, allow them to dry with pantyhose on and then carefully remove - otherwise there’s a risk of smudging the color on the egg. Refrigerate your eggs and enjoy within a few days!
