Cecilia Minalga for ADEM Delegate - AD16

I am excited to announce my campaign to run as Assembly District Delegate for CADEM’s State Central Committee in AD-16.

What does that mean? Assembly District Delegates (ADEM) bridge communication between elected representatives and our community. They elect party leaders, and vote on platform resolutions and endorsements.

In the spirit of democracy, I have approached my political volunteer and organizing work with everything I had. I started with just an hour or two every week back in 2016. In 2020, I worked as the Area Director – Bay Area for the California Democratic Party, 2020 Coordinated Campaign. And I continued my activism work by leading statewide paid phone bank teams for the Stop the Recall campaign in 2021.

In early 2022, I co-founded the Bay Area Coalition to harness the power of Bay Area activists to win elections in key races to promote a democratic, equitable, and just society, focusing on California Central Valley, Arizona, and Nevada. As an all-volunteer group, we were joined by more than 20 partners including Swing Left groups, Commit to Democracy, East Bay Activist Alliance, and several Bay Area central committees … all working collaboratively to complement each other’s efforts. We organized funding led by CADEM and Congressmembers Garamendi and Lee to support CD22 canvasser gas, hotel, food, and supply costs. To promote our volunteer actions, we created Training and Speaker Series programs. Together we knocked on 40K doors in CD22, with more than 8K conversations. Our phone banks completed almost 5K volunteer shifts, with 700K calls made and 23K conversations.

Along with my work for the Bay Area Coalition, I continue to be the Volunteer Activism Chair of the Democratic Party of Contra Costa County, active partner with Central Valley Matters, and steering committee member of San Ramon Valley Democratic Club.

This work has informed my belief that every person who supports the Democratic ticket and Democratic values can find a welcoming “home” in the CA Democratic Party. Every voice matters and it is my intention to represent AD-16 to organize, engage, and activate voters. As a Delegate, I will continue my leadership role to collaborate with activists, groups, volunteers, neighbors … and voters.

TJ Cox beat Valadao in 2018 by 862 votes. And then Valadao took back the seat in 2020 by 1,522 votes. We MUST defeat Valadao in 2022. We have a razor thin majority in the House, and California needs to deliver a +1 and hold the other seats we flipped in 2018.

Folks in Kings, Tulare and Kern Counties will pick their Congressional District 22 candidate on June 7, and then we need to do EVERYTHING we can to support them. Every election and every vote matters.

Like so many of us, the 2016 election was the time to respond to our political challenge … the reminder that democracy is not a spectator sport. I approached my political volunteer and organizing work with everything I had to knock doors, phone bank, write postcards, poll watch, and cure ballots. I joined so many other dedicated volunteers to win in the California Central Valley and Las Vegas. Following the November 2018 elections, I worked with the Beto for America campaign, with activities in the Bay Area, Texas, and Arizona. I joined the Commit to Flip Blue steering committee, and was an active member of the San Ramon Valley Democratic Club.

In January 2020, I started work as the Area Director – Bay Area for the California Democratic Party, 2020 Coordinated Campaign. I am proud to have led our team in developing our Bay Area field program to build working relationships and share resources. We forged bonds with local Democratic activists, clubs, Resistance groups, labor, national, state and local campaigns, and others to work collaboratively to complement each other’s efforts and mobilize local volunteer power for Democratic victories across the country. Together we completed 21K volunteer shifts, making 9.3 million dials to 11 battleground states.

This work has informed my belief that every person who supports the Democratic ticket and Democratic values can find a welcoming “home” in the CA Democratic Party. Every voice matters and it is my intention to represent AD-16 to organize, engage, and activate voters. As a Delegate, I will continue my leadership role to collaborate with activists, groups, volunteers, neighbors … and voters.
