It has been a GREAT journey to say the least! A MAJOR thank you goes out to my team! Regardless of the results, WE👏🏽DID👏🏽THAT👏🏽 Hands down THEE BEST campaign & THEE BEST campaign team! Tonight, we still made history! Being able to inspire and motivate the youth of our community will forever and always be a passion of mine! Day 19: Lisa Gelobter was closely involved with the 1995 creation of Shockwave as a software engineer, the technology that helped to develop web animation. (Think of all of those GIFs we know and love.) She also helped launch Hulu and served on the senior management team.

Day 18: Shirley Jackson, the first African American woman to earn a doctorate at MIT. She is responsible for monumental telecommunications research that led to the invention of products such as the touch-tone phone, portable fax, fiber optic cables, and caller ID.

Day 17: Constance Baker Motley wrote the legal brief for the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education case, which struck down racial segregation in American public schools. Soon she herself was arguing before the Supreme Court – the first Black woman to do so.

Day 16: Lydia D. Newman gravitated toward a career involving the hair-care industry where she got a patent for her invention, the first
synthetic hairbrush, in 1898. Her innovation allowed for easier access to the bristles in order to clean out the brush. In addition, she introduced synthetic bristles. Before her invention, brushes used animal hair, such as a boar’s. Her invention made brushing long locks a more hygienic process.

Day 15: Lucy Diggs Slowe was appointed the first Dean of Women at Howard University. In addition, she created and led two professional associations to support college administrators. Slowe was also a tennis champion, winning the national title of the American Tennis Association's first tournament in 1917, the first African American woman to win a major sports title.

Day 14: Katherine Dunham was an African-American dancer and choreographer, producer, author, scholar, anthropologist and Civil Rights activist. She had one of the most successful dance careers in Western dance theatre in the 20th century and directed her own dance company for many years. She is known for her many innovations, one of her most known being the Dunham Technique, a system of movement and exercises based in traditional dances of the African Diaspora.

Day 11: Marie Van Britton Brown; In 1966, she invented a video home security system along with her husband Albert Brown, an electronics technician. In the same year, they applied for a patent for their innovative security system, which was granted in 1969. Her innovation has had a huge impact on the entire security system.

Day 11: Maggie L Walker, an African-American entrepreneur and civic leader who broke traditional gender and discriminatory laws by becoming the FIRST Black woman to establish and become president of a bank in the United States--the Saint Luke Penny Savings Bank in Richmond. As of 2010, when it was known as Consolidated Bank and Trust Company, it was the oldest continually African-American--operated bank in the United States.

Day 11: Madam CJ Walker, widely regarded as one of the first millionaires. She created hair-care solutions and remedies with Black women in mind and sold them door-to-door. She eventually created a brand people recognized, widely manufactured her products, and hired 40,000 ambassadors since the company's beginning stages.

Day 10: Katherine Johnson, one of the mathematicians for NASA who had a hand in sending Americans to space for the first time.
Being handpicked to be one of three black students to integrate West Virginia’s graduate schools is something that many people would consider one of their life’s most notable moments, but it’s just one of several breakthroughs that have marked Katherine Johnson’s long and remarkable life.

Day 9: Mary McCleod Bethune knew that education was key, but she also knew it was difficult for young black children to achieve. Her educational activism and leadership set her up to be a political activist. She went on to find the National Council of Negro Women, and worked in Franklin D. Roosevelt's administration, where she served as the informal "race leader at large".

Day 8: Fannie Lou Hamer, The mother of Voter's Registration. She was a poor, uneducated black woman who showed that a person didn't need fancy credentials to inspire others. When activists launched voter registration drives in the mid-1960s, they recruited her to help out. She paid a price for her activism.
