Looking back into this piece, I wanted to share my inspiration with you. This work was intended to create a more intimate connection between the subject and the viewer. Getting up close to the Rhino's horn and the wrinkles, cracks and ridges on the face and body give an undeniable experience of the uniqueness and beauty of the rhino.

Here we can see they are looking at us and we of them. There may even be a sense of vulnerability. The sought after horn is front and center yet very much a part of the aesthetic versus falsely idolized. The unexpected colors and patterns are a nod to the complexity and humanity of these majestic creatures.

This specific piece won a juried spot in the Endangered Art for Apes exhibition, judged by the famous zoologist, philanthropist and Nikon ambassador photographer, Ron Magill.

Here in my studio space, I am definitely transported to another state of mind. The creative zone is my happy place! 🧘‍♀️🎨🌿

I'm so thankful to have this dedicated area to create, it's something I've always wanted! The last 2 weeks we were having a mold issue remediated and now that it's complete I'm itching to get back in there.

I was definitely challenged with this piece as the earthy colors were a departure from my vibrant palette I am known for.

This painting was created for an office with a masculine touch, and I must admit, I think it came out really beautiful. Thoughts?

Reflecting on this incredible journey to Snowmass Village, CO…

I have to say nothing but huge admiration and love for our instructor Keith. His guidance was nothing but 🤯

My workstation became a canvas of inspiration elements strung about: an Elephant image, metal, burlap, rocks, string and Aspen leaves.

Always admire Mom’s methodical process especially as I watched her work her magic with her signature red.

Among the many experimental pieces, one stands out, the repeated drawing of the hummingbird moth, a frequent visitor in the Colorado Mountain flowers. They captured my attention and I found myself looking for them throughout the trip.

One unforgettable night in Aspen, we explored the town and the vibrant art galleries. At 8000 feet high, it felt like we could reach out and touch the clouds ☁️

The celestial and dark paintings I ventured into were unexpected, yet I found beauty in the monotone and subtle contrasts I learned to achieve. And let’s not forget that luxe touch with the gold foil!

But perhaps the most cathartic experience was working on those experimental pieces, wrapping materials around wood and applying my already created artwork. It symbolized healing juxtaposed with constraint. The question lingered, what if they unravel? The uncertainty only added to the art’s mystique.

Lastly, us preparing to fly back home, there’s a sense of sadness mingled with immense gratitude. This journey has been nothing short of amazing and unforgettable.

My name is Elyssa Helfman and I am an artist dedicated to honoring beautiful beings with bold colors, playful textures, and a memorable impact.

In many of my pieces, I strive to shed a new and lasting light on endangered animals by having viewers develop a profound connection with the artwork.

One of my goals is to create awareness for this critical cause by donating 10% of all my art proceeds to wildlife conservation funds. My patrons and followers can feel good knowing that they too are making a difference in the world...something we could all use a lot more of!

Recently, I fulfilled a life long dream of licensing my art, it was beyond exciting! commissioned custom hand-painted designs to be featured on their silk bedding, coordinating with an array of their luscious color palettes. These luxe products are evsn sold on Amazon, how cool is that?!

This year also marked a thrilling milestone of creating my first large scale wall mural .makesit, a vibrant 3000 square foot pottery studio home to a budding community of artists and good souls! I painted an elephant with a commanding presence and inspiring vibe.

Contributing to our community has been important to me and I'm proud of a project I created called Color Us Well. Known and emerging local artists donated an original drawing of theirs for a special coloring book. Over 300 books got distributed to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and Miami Children’s Hospital during the holidays, accompanied by artist workshops for the young patients.

I'm also a mom of 2 young children, a creative director, yoga lover, foodie and must get out into nature to feel "alive!"

I'm continuing to experiment, work on new ideas and see what develops in the art studio! Follow me in this incredible journey of mine and let’s get creative!
