DTC-Elite Athlete Spotlight: Joel Pfahler

First, a HUGE congratulations to Joel for competing in and finishing 9th place at the Olympic Trials 20k Race Walk on June 30th in a blazing time of 1:39:34! Joel said that beyond all of the training and diligence he found “security in who [he is]- not just being an athlete-helped [him] stay grounded and free to be [himself].”

Let’s learn a bit about Joel Pfahler!

→Favorite quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life: From the movie Chariots of Fire: “Where does the power come from, to see the race til its end? From within... I believe God made me for a purpose. But he also made me fast!”

→Favorite shoe from Runners Plus: I’ve worn Asics GT-2000 shoes (for running, not walking) for the last 14 years. They fit my feet correctly and they just feel comfortable for running.

→Superpower: PERSISTENCE. Never giving up!

→Best piece of running advice you’d give your younger self: You have no idea what you’re capable of until you try.

→Why do you love to run / race? I was naturally a fast runner but I didn’t get very competitive until high school/ college. I love how running or walking is a sport that anyone can do as long as you stay dedicated to working at it. By being a race walker, I’ve had opportunities I wouldn’t have had in running, such as being a college All-American, qualifying for the Olympic Trials, and competing for Team USA. Those have been amazing experiences for which I’m grateful.

Thanks for an excellent ! Congratulations to all DTC Elite competitors who braved the conditions in the morning 4 miler and evening Elite 5k. Keep up that stellar summer training and racing!

It was a great morning to run with friends at the Memorial Day 5k! Thanks and for an opportunity to honor those who have sacrificed for our freedom.

Our annual Memorial Day 5K is coming up, and we want to see YOU there🤩

Afterward, kick-off your recovery with Mobility Fit Physical Therapy!

The Memorial Day “Mini March” is a FREE, untimed 400m (1 track lap) race for kiddos 8 and under. All Mini Marchers will receive some fun, spirited swag for marching!

ROUTE:
5k will roll through two loops to include a mix of recreation path, sidewalk, and road. The Mini Marchers will run 1 lap (400m / 1/4 mile) around a paved track (near the 5k start/finish).

DTC Elite is amazed at world and national performances this Spring from members Joel Pfahler and Maura Lemon!

Joel was selected to represent Team USA in the World Race Walk Team Championships in Antalya, Turkey. He competed in the 20k race walk on April 21. Joel finished in the men’s 20k (12.4 miles) in 1:41:03 finishing 74th place out of 87 athletes representing 50 countries. The top athletes will compete in the Paris Olympics this summer.

Maura finished the as the 30th OAF and 10th Overall American Woman. She says, “The entire race was a thrill. Toeing the line with some of the world’s best runners, riding the energy of the crowds at the Wellesley Scream Tunnel, cresting Heartbreak Hill, and making that final turn onto Boylston are all moments that will stay with me forever.”

Way to go, Joel and Maura!

It’s been a champion weekend at the Flying Pig Racing events for DTC Elite members Jason Salyer, Olivia Anger, and Emily Zimmerman. Olivia and Jason finished first in the marathon, while Emily led the women’s 10k. Congratulations to all runners who took on hilly Cincinnati! Thanks to for all of the well-organized events.

Congratulations to Katie Ruhlman who finished 2nd at the 50 West Mile!! Way to go! It’s going to be a fun weekend of Flying Pig Events for DTC!
