My friend Jan Dunbar and her son Paul put together this Go Fund Me post for me. They said I should "Share It" with my Facebook friends and relatives, as they might not be aware of this. Thanks to Patrick Dunbar too.

For those of you that would like to see what it was like for me to take my first 6 or 7 steps in learning how to walk again. This short video was taken in Ann Arbor Verterans Hospital physical therapy unit just before Christmas. My phisical therapist Alicia Hampton is in front guiding me and John is following with the wheelchair. These first few step were one of the hardest things I have ever had to do in my life. I have come a long way. Many greatful thanks to Alicia, Crystal, John and the whole physical therapy staff, as well as Jonathan in Occupational Therapy.
Hello to all my Facebook relatives and friends. It has been well over 3 months since I posted anything on Facebook. Some you may not have known that during this time I was hospitalized in two hospitals. in late October 2022,my friends Kim & Tim Tonachella found me on the floor in a semi-concious state. Kim told Tim that, "Dennis is on the floor." Tim immediately called emergency services here in Dearborn. In my semi-councious state i said to Kim, "No I am not" - ha!!! The last thing that I remember was being in the ambulace were I completely lost conciousness. I was taken to Beaumont Hospital (the old Oakwood Hospital) here in Dearborn. Eventually, I was taken - in early November to the Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor. Near the beginning of December. I came out of the coma and was placed in the ICU (intensive care unit). Finally in January, I was placed in the CLC ward and given physical theropy to regain my motor skills and learn to walk again. I losr the ability ro walk because my leg muscels had atrofeed (SP?) while I was in the coma. No one is completely sure why I originally passed out. I believe it was because of a combination of things. Being a diabetic, I have passed out twice before during a hypoglicemic episode. The hypoglicemic attack and a combination of a resperatory ailment and several other things "conspired" together to cause me to lapse into the coma. At one point, things were so bad that a VA doctor used the paddels & CPR to kick-start me back to life. Without going into any more details, sufice it to say I have bounced back remarkably well. My son Ben picked me up from the VA hospital in A2, when I was released on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023. Ben took this series of photos of me 1. In the truck just after he picked me upat the VA, 2. Back home in the dinning room having a turkey/swiss cheese on dark rye sandwhich and a dill pickle, 3. Back on my computer. The most startling thing about these pictures is that while I was in the VA hospital a nurse shaved me and I told her to go ahead and shave my head. Hair is had to take care of in the hospital and it will grow back - as you can see - is starting to do - ha!!!
Here is another reminder for my Michigan Facebook fiends and relatives about the grand opening of the Michigan Rock & Roll Legends Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 12th in Bay City, MI. See the poster posted below for details. The opening will feature a talk by Hall of Fame founder Gary Johnson and a display of my concert posters.
The Ho**ah supplies advertising sign I made a few months ago for a local business, attracted a lot of attention. I live in Dearborn, Michigan which has a large Middle Eastern/American community. I was contacted by another local company to create logo for a ho**ah vacuum they are in the process of manufacturing. I also worked on the box packaging. I will post more about this project as it develops.
Another new CD package I have been working on is for Charles Dudley. It is still being mixed and mastered, but should be released in the near future. The album is called "Personality" and this is the front cover design.
Two weeks ago, I finished designing the CD package for Michael Gurley's new solo album called "Ultrasound." This is the front cover. The CD is presently being manufactured and should be available soon. Michael Gurley lives in LA is a guitarist, singer and songwriter. He has previously been in the band Dada, that had a number of albums released by IRS Records. More recently, he was in the group Butterfly Jones. Both bands have videos on YouTube. The new album will be released on the Street Smoke label.
I have been busy working on so many different graphic design projects lately, that I did not have time to post them. So today I will try to catch up and post some of new designs that have been approved over the last month or so. This first design was done soon after the Santa Cruz Mountains fires, where so many lost their homes. I was contacted by a person from a fund that is raising money to help those that people that lived in the area and lost everything. This is a design for a t-shirts that will be sold to help raise funds for those needy folks.
Hi folks, I should have posted this yesterday, but my computer monitor went on the blink and I had to get a new one. It was after midnight, before I was able to get the new monitor set up. Same brand, but of course they had to change things - ha!!! Anyway, July 16th would have been Larry Ray's 66th birthday. Bruce Nichols decided that would be a good day to release the new Ivories LP, "To Tall For The Record Biz." This is a collection of unreleased studio sessions and a handful of live recordings. 14 songs in all. 11 original songs by Larry or Bruce and 3 covers of songs by Del Shannon, Hank Williams and The Beatles. I designed the gate-fold LP jacket several months ago. They were printed and in the hands of Third Man Record Records before they closed the pressing plant due to the Covid-19 "stay-at-home" order. The plant reopened a couple of weeks ago and the Third Man staff began pressing the LPs on white vinyl. It was Bruce's idea to make the front and back of the cover in black and white, because so many DIY 45 rpm picture sleeves in the '70s were black and white, because the bands had very little money. But Bruce wanted people to be surprised when they opened the gate-fold cover, much like The Wizard Of OZ movie, which was black and white when Dorothy was in Kansas, but was in color when she woke up in Oz. I made the two inside panels resemble what it was like to design an LP jacket in the days before computers. So you can see the tool of the trade we used in the 70s, fueled by coffee (ha!!!) with all the memorabilia and photos spread out on the drawing table. I made the labels look like old 78 rpm labels. In the extra pocket fans will find a poster, promo photo and a couple of other surprises. The LP is available at Dearborn Music, Third Man Records store and a number of other stores in the the Detroit metro area. No website or mail order at the present time, but we are working on that and maybe a video of one of the songs on YouTube. Anyway the following graphics should give you an eyeful - ha!!! Kim Nichols can show this post to Bruce. Mike McDowell wrote a press release for us and we will be mailing those out with promo copies to the music and local media.
I designed the magazine cover (on the left) for the Summer 2017 Issue #10 of TimeMaZine published in Greece. That issue slso featured an article about my artwork, as well as many features about "The Summer Of Love" in San Francisco. The cover of issue #11 was created artist Dale Simpson. This newest issue features an article I wrote entitled "The Influence of Psychedelic Concert Posters on Rock Album Cover Design.
Here are a couple of ads that I designed for Kent Wood's Blue Moon Posters & Collectibles company and Freddie "Steady" Krc's SteadyBoy Records label. They appear this the latest issue of Ugly Things magazine, published by Mike Stax.
This artwork was done for a Full Moonalice "Time Has Come R***e" newsletter, video and promotional uses. "Love, Peace & Understanding" is a new recording of The Chambers Brothers song, that features Lester Chambers and Dylan Chambers on vocals.
This poster for the Full Moonalice "Time Has Come" R***e was originally scheduled for a May 11th concert at the McMenamins Anderson School in Bothell, Washington. The artwork will be used for a future concert.
First, let me say "Thank You" to all my Facebook friends and relatives that sent me a birthday greeting. I wasn't able to get through all of them, because there were almost 500 of them.
I haven't been on Facebook for a while again, because I got very busy making art and graphic designs for a number of clients, who have gratefully keep me working.
This design job came from out of the blue and isn't music related. One day, I was in a local store that I frequent. They hired me to make a sign to advertise their ho**ahs and ho**ah supplies. Here in Dearborn, Michigan we have a large of Middle Eastern-American residents and so there are many local businesses that sell Ho**ahs. I feel just like the Catapiller in "Alice In Wonderland - ha!!! I had to play "White Rabbit" and the whole "Surrealistic Pillow" album by Jefferson Airplane, while I worked on this art. Never had to draw smoke before, but I figured it out - ha!!!
Last week was Earth Day was celebrated. I should have posted this Hollywood Bowl Earth Day concert poster that I designed back in 1993. I was recently contacted by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, because they wanted my permission to use this poster on their social networking sites. The poster already to hangs in Hollywood Bowl museum.
Roger McNamee and the Moonalice family asked the poster team to design educational series of Covid-19 Virus posters. This is the poster image I created to warn against xenophobia during the crisis, because the virus effects all ethnic groups.
In spite of the "shelter in place" situation, I am so thankful that Roger McNamee and Moonalice are keeping the Full Moonalice with the New Chambers Brothers & T Sisters, and Doobie Decibel System poster art team busy creating concert poster images to be used in their podcasts. Eventually these posters images will be become actual concert posters in the future. I designed this poster for the 420 "Gathering Of The Tribe" that was cancelled to do to the Covid-19 virus situation. It was already used in one of the videos.
This is a solar energy poster that I designed for Albert Neiman's "New Green Deal" poster series. Our mutual friend and poster artist Alexandra Fischer's wind energy was published, Albert was looking for sponsors to publish my poster and three others, when he was taken ill and has now passed away.
The Ivories vinyl LP is in production, but has been delayed being pressed by Third Man Pressing due to the present Corona Virus situation. I will post the cover and other elements of that project soon. In the meantime, I will post my two sided 5x7 inch postcard that will be one of the inserts. It features concert posters, along with a number of CD and LP covers, along a few 45 rpm picture sleeves, that I have designed or worked on over the years. It was a difficult choice from more than 50 years of work.
Just finished a new poster design for legendary guitarist Greg Douglass. Greg was a member of the Steve Miller Band, and also played with Van Morrison, Greg Kihn, Eddie Money, Hot Tuna, Paul Butterfield and other great acts. Details on the poster below.
Here is my latest Doobie Decibel System poster design. I hope my San Francisco Bay Area, will attend this concert on March 6th at the Terrapin Station in San Rafael, CA. This venue is very cool and owned by Grateful Dead bass player Phil Lesh,
I am working on several new graphic design projects that I will post when I am the are approved and printed. In the meantime I thought I would post a composite for some of my CD, LP and Catalog designs I did for the Del-Fi label, when I lived in Hollywood. Most of these are original designs that I did for the CD reissues, but the Dave Meyers & The Suftones was a recreation of the original LP cover. The original art was lost hence my recreation. This album was reissued as a vinyl LP, as were most of the Surf Music and Hot Rod Music albums released by Del-Fi in the early '60s. Del-Fi was one of the first label to bring vinyl back. In the lower right hand corner are two of the Del-Fi catalog covers I designed along with a photo of label owner, founder and producer Bob Keene during his Big Band days. He sold his Del-Fi, Donna, Mustang, Bronco and other labels recordings and masters to Warner Brothers Records before he passed away. He was a true independent pioneer who discovered and recorded Sam Cooke, Richie Valens, David Gates, The Bobby Fuller Four, Frank Zappa, Barry White and many other bands and solo artist in his long career.
I took this photo of Ian Anderson, the lead singer and flute player of Jethro Tull at the Fillmore West in the late '60s. I happened to catch Anderson in his classic pose - ha!!! I used a flash attachment that froze the moment, but wiped out the light show. The concert also featured Detroit's MC5 and San Francisco band Sanpaku.
A couple of weeks ago, Iworked on another Flamin' Groovies poster with lead guitarist Cyril Jordan. When I finished with the poster, I was so busy that I forgot to post it on Facebook. The concert was actually last Saturday. I hope some of my San Francisco area FB friends went to the show.
I finally finished designing a holiday greeting for all of my Facebook friends and family members - from my daughter-in-law Cyndie Berg, my son Benjamin Grant and myself. I have also attached a composite of four photographs taken this year by my son Ben. All of you have a wonderful and special time!!!
