In only 10 days, the five Phoebes went from barely visible little beaks peaking up, to this. I opened the front door for a minute this morning to get clearer images, instead of shooting through glass. The whole time I was shooting mom and dad kept bluff charging me, enough I could feel the wind coming off their wings. It's gotta be crowded in there, and at night I think mom and dad actually sleep up there too!
I can now add distillery + art gallery to my long list of cool places I've been on assignment, plus it's in the ever-evolving Chamblee, where I spent a lot of my teen years! From left: An Orange, Red & Yellow (lime Tepache, Gochuang with a chili spirit), Kick the Dust Up, and Water Lillies (Peach Vodka, lime with a grapefruit shrub). That giant steampunk-looking creature in the background is a massive distiller, and churning out some fine 110 proof elixir - which I got to sample right from the tap. Thank you fine folks and true artisans at Distillery of Modern Art for the super neat tour and the tasting! If you're in the area check them out. Styling thanks to mixologist and mad scientist Trey Jones! Photo 2024 Chris Hunt Photography for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution for AJC Food & Drink.
I love the backstory’s to great movies.
Peter Boyle's wife Loraine Alterman Boyle was a reporter for "Rolling Stone" magazine when they first met - he was in his full makeup for "Young Frankenstein" (1974). Through her friendship with Yoko Ono, Peter met and became best friends with ex-Beatle John Lennon. Lennon served as best man at the Boyle wedding.
When starting to film the "Puttin' on the Ritz" scene in "Young Frankenstein," reportedly no one (not even co-writers Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder) was sure what the creature should say. The first time out of the gate, however, Peter Boyle came up with a strangled version of "Puiinin on da reeez!"
The Blind Man scene includes parts where we see the monster having hot soup poured on him and getting his thumb lit on fire. To keep himself protected, Boyle had a hot pad on his lap, and he held a fake thumb with alcohol on it to keep the fire burning.
Wilder, Boyle, and Marty Feldman appeared in this film by virtue of the fact that their mutual agent had a deal with the movie studio. (IMDb)
Happy Birthday, Peter Boyle!
Remembering American actress and comedienne Irene Ryan on her birthday (October 17, 1902 – April 26, 1973). A successful vaudeville, radio, film, television and Broadway performer, Ryan is well known for her role as Daisy "Granny" Moses on The Beverly Hillbillies from 1962–1971.

Retiree finds new career on Greensboro blueberry farm Hemi Blueberry Farm, near Greensboro, is only an hour and a half from Atlanta, but seems worlds away. Wonderful week of Filipino flavors and talented chefs!
Recipes: At home with Filipino flavors Filipino food has never sustained much attention in the continental U.S. despite ties that date to 1898, when Spain ceded control of its Pacific colony to the U.S. That’s curious, because the cuisines of both countries resemble an evolving stew layered with the flavors of the cultures that it enco...
