Being hospitalized and undergoing unfamiliar medical procedures can provoke anxiety. Elevated anxiety can make healing slower and reduce outcomes of the procedures. A randomized controlled clinical trial evaluated the effects of inhaling ylang ylang essential oil among people hospitalized for interventional neuroradiology (INR) procedures. Ylang ylang (25 mcL) or a placebo (25 mcL of distilled water) were dropped onto two pieces of absorbent mulberry paper and then attached to the person’s gown at shoulder level for 12 hours. Trait and state anxiety scores and biological indices—salivary cortisol and alpha-amylase (indicators of stress and anxiety), blood pressure, and heart rate—were measured before and after the intervention. The ylang ylang group experienced significantly less trait and state anxiety and decreased salivary alpha-amylase, showing that inhaling ylang ylang can decrease anxiety related to unfamiliar medical procedures.

Chronic inflammation is accompanied by intensified cytokine secretion, which increases the risk of many conditions and leads to premature aging. Macrophages play a critical role in regulating the inflammatory process and if they don’t perform their functions well inflammation is not resolved, leading to chronic inflammation. Laboratory research found that fractions of grapefruit essential oil rich in aldehydes reduced gene expression and levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-α. The research suggests that grapefruit essential oil fractions may be helpful for a variety of chronic inflammatory conditions.

+Fill 1/4 of jar with unscented Castile soap

I don’t know why people buy foaming hand soap when it is sooo easy (and much more cost-effective) to make your own! It also would make a super easy gift! Tie a bow or a spruce sprig on it and you are set!
+Fill 1/4 of jar with unscented Castile soap

+30 drops Essential oil of choice
+Fill 1/4 of jar with unscented Castille soap
+Add 3 drops of Vitamin E oil
+fill rest with Distilled water
Add foaming hand soap dispenser and you are ready to go!
