Diamond Flush Gun Dogs

This dynamic duo had quite the hunt test season.

Diamond Flush Lady Luck JH jumped into training for a junior title on a whim when Gunnar decided he wanted to put a Junior title on his dog.

2x BDC NC Diamond Flush Card Trix MH went with The Blast Wingshooting Kennels for the winter training season to work towards her Master Title. (She also won her second BDC National Championship while in training). As she was finishing up her title, we got the wild idea to qualify her for the prestigious Master National Retriever Club test at the end of September. Trixie came home after qualifying for some cuddles and is back training. It’s a bummer to have her out for the fall tournaments, but we’re excited for her future.

Gunnar set a goal this summer to hunt test Lady and get her AKC Junior title. While there are lots of opportunities for hunt tests, planning this around a busy summer proved to be difficult. Justin started the hunt test season with her to “test the waters” and got her first 2 passes.

Gunnar handled her through pass number 3 and finally pass number 4 yesterday at Island View Retriever Club’s fall hunt test.

As Gunnar walked from the line after the water series, the smile said it all.

Congratulations Gunnar, you put your first title on a dog. 🎉🎉

For moral support, and Gunnar’s training he also ran Sal, who proved to be the steady Eddy. As he had 2 bird malfunctions, one in each series with his flyer flying away and then a water mark not launching. 👑♦️ Junior pass number two for Sal.

Continuing with more hunt test successes.

Gunnar ran in his first hunt tests with both Lady and Sal.

It rained the entire time and the mosquitoes were nasty. Gunnar came away with a few things to work on and Lady is just one pass away from her Junior title and Sal was there for moral support.

It was a successful hunt test weekend for Diamond Flush Gun Dogs.

Trixie punched her ticket to the this fall. She’s now home for some rest and family time before going back to work late summer.

Thank you The Blast Wingshooting Kennels for all you’ve done for us and her. She’s one of a kind. In December of 2021 when we got her we knew she was special and she proves that time and time again.

One year later… May 28th, 2023, Trixie ran her first Senior hunt test in Horicon. Today, Trixie adds the letters ‘MH’ to her name in Horicon.

has two more master passes under her belt. She went through all 6 series without any handles. She was an absolute rock star. She’s now one away from her MH.

She was in work mode 100% after being in tournament mode just the weekend before. We could not be more proud of her and her impressive drive.

The day after a tournament weekend is always hard.

After a long hard battle the National Bird Dog Circuit super major, “The Classic” comes to an end.

We were happy to be running today.

Trixie sadly didn’t place in the Top Gun but Justin and Craig took third in the doubles.

Little Miss Lady ended up second in Ladies and Fourth with Justin in Puppy.

Sal took second with Justin & I in doubles and 5th in the Ladies.

Justin ended up sweeping the doubles with 3 different partners. 1st - Pyro & Tony. 2nd - Sal & Randi and 3rd - Trixie & Craig.

Headed home from Kansas. Some tough luck in Puppy of the Year and Ladies Flushing Player odds the Year with Trixie.

Justin and Sal took the W in Pre- Nationals Top Gun and Lady ended up middle of the pack in the finals.

Justin and Tony took 2nd and 3rd in the doubles with Pyro and Sal.

Congrats to Tony on the Dog of the Year win with Pyro. Justin and Tony put up a smoker in the doubles portion to have a 3 minute lead on the next fastest dog.

Congrats Mike and Mike on the Pointer Dog of the Year win and Tim and Storm on the Puppy of the Year win.

And so it begins. It’s BDC Nationals week.

Although Justin and I aren’t staying all week, the excitement begins today with Pre-Nationals.

Sal, Trixie and Lady are all up in both the Top Gun and Doubles.

Tomorrow in the run offs Trixie has runs in both Ladies Player of the Year and Puppy of the Year.

Christmas 2023 looked a bit different than most. Justin and I snuck away with a trailer full of bird dogs and went west. (The best you can sneak with 11 Labradors in tow).

We spent 3 days in North Dakota hunting wiley wild pheasants. Closing out the trip on Christmas Eve, we were two birds shy of our 3 day limit.

I was ecstatic to shoot my first ever wild birds, it made it all the more special to do it over our dogs alongside Justin.

We’ll be home in time to celebrate Christmas with Gunnar along with his 2nd Place finish at the Andy Heine Memorial Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

Do all the things that bring you joy. Don’t skip the trips, make the damn memories.

Justin and the have been dominating the wild roosters in Iowa this weekend. They’ve had some great weather, some tough weather and dogs that stand up to all of it.

A quick trip (and a long walk) up to the Northwoods for some tough grouse hunting. Both Trixie and Lady flushed and retrieved their first grouse this weekend.

After two long fought weekends at our Fall BDC Super Majors; The Top Gun Championships and The Players Championships we’ve finally had a chance to sit down and recap.

Thank you first off to the Hosts, Staff and Promoters that make these events happen without you we would never get to play the game.

Weekend one, September 9-11th, Mike Vaughn Hosted the Top Gun Championships. Justin and I made it through the weekend into Championship Monday in Doubles Flushing with Trixie, Puppy Flushing Finals Sunday with both Trixie and Lady and Top Gun Semi Finals with Sal.

Randi took 2nd with Cowboy and 4th with Sal in the Ladies.

Justin and Lady took 3rd in the Puppy Finals.

Justin and I finished 5th in the Doubles with Trixie, Tony, Justin and Pyro took 4th in the doubles and Craig, Justin and Penny took home the cup.

Fast forward to weekend number 2 in Albert Lea MN, Justin took Trixie to the Top Gun finals, and Sal to the doubles finals.

Randi took 2nd with Gunner and 4th with Sal in the Ladies. Randi missed the puppy finals with Trixie by a shot.

Justin finished 6th in the Top Gun with Trixie.

Justin, Tony and Sal finished 5th in doubles, Tony, Justin and Pyro finished 4th and took home the 1st Place cup.

Justin, Tony and Raina Storm (owned by Glenn Garrity Sr) finished 5th in the Doubles Pointing and ended up 7th in the Top Gun Pointing.

Although no cups came home in our truck, we were happy to be back with our bird dog family and proud to run behind some great dogs the last two weekends.

Trixie’s Master quest is one step closer with pass number 3 guided by The Blast Wingshooting Kennels.

One weekend closer to her title and one weekend closer to tournament season.

Diamond Flush Card Trix completed her second pass in her quest for her master title this weekend in Horicon WI under the guidance of The Blast Wingshooting Kennels.

Thank you Sugar River Labradors for this powerhouse dog that is quickly showing she’s one of the special ones.

Soon enough she’ll be back chukar chasing in the tournament fields.

This weekend Diamond Flush Card Trix made waves with her first Master Pass at The Fox Valley Retriever Club July Hunt Test.

While it might be hunt test season for Trixie (pictured after her first Senior Hunter pass - dark red with the goofy look on her face), Sal is mid baseball season retrieving wild pitches, passed balls and dingers hit by Gunnar. Master hunter also means master outfielder and shortstop.

Cowboy and his accolades in the field speak for themselves. His extreme athleticism is showcased in the upland field and as stoic as can be in the blind waiting on incoming geese and ducks. All you have to do is meet Cowboy one time and you will fall in love with him. He is calm and collected and will give you all the affection you need. He is great around young kids and a great playmate with other dogs.

Tana is definitely no slouch at 2 years old. She was started in Mike Vaughn’s Puppy Program and then trained by my son (9yo) and myself. She is a flamethrower that understands teamwork no matter who is working with her. At a young age (before 1), My son ran her to her started title.Almost lined up with her 2nd birthday she finished her Seasoned HRC title ran by myself (amateur) and then added one extra Seasoned pass by my 9 year old son. She earned her BDC Champion in her 3rd tournament at the age of 1 and remains an upland phenom. She had an amazing 2022 waterfowl season running finished level blinds and multiple marks in real world scenarios. We are excited for her to achieve her HRCH in 2023.

Sal and Justin added to their collection this weekend with a big win at The BDC Classic in Anita, IA.

In a tight race in the bullet dog run off to get into the Top Gun Finals, Justin edged his partner Tony and Pyro out of the finals by 00.1 seconds with a 2:35.18 over a 2:35.28.

Sal kept his game face on to win the Top Gun by 10 seconds.

Justin, Tony and Pyro took second in the doubles.

I was able to gain some consistency back that had been missing with Sal and Cowboy this season. I was able to move Cowboy and Gunner onto the finals and finish 3rd and 4th.

Congratulations everyone for a tough weekend with carried conditions. 80 on Friday, wind and rain Saturday and snow Sunday until we finished, and Mother Nature gave us some nice weather for photos.

After a tough week of competition and lots of emotional ups and downs we closed the book on the The 2022 BDC National Championship.

We started the week with out of the year run offs with Sal in dog of the year, Trixie in Puppy of the Year and myself in ladies flushing Player of the year.

Sal narrowly missed the coveted Dog of The Year title by 1 point with some smoking runs. Trixie wasn’t quite as quick as little Penny (owned by Dirty Prairie Kennels).

We are so proud of little Trixie bringing home her first National Championship at a year and a half old. Trixie came last year at 6 months old to learn about being at tournaments and now she’s killing it.

I finished up with 5th in the ladies pointing after running Mike the first time we were down there.

Gunner and I had a good run with an extra shot and bumped us into 3rd. Congratulations to Jenny on her National Championship and her black jacket.

Congratulations to all after hard fought battles all week long in changing Kansas conditions.

Quick recap going into Championship Saturday.

Friday was Top Gun Semi Final, Puppy Finals and Ladies Finals.

Trixie took the crown as the National Champion Puppy.

Randi tan Gunner and Trixie in the ladies Finals. Gunner and Randi finished 3rd after some tough shots and Trixie and Randi couldn’t quite put it together.

Randi Finished 5th in the pointing running Magic Mike for the 2nd time ever.

Today, Justin will team up with Craig Anderson and Penny in the doubles finals as well as Tony Peterson and Pyro in the doubles.

Justin had some smoking runs with Trixie punching her finals ticket twice.

Randi punched tickets for 50% of her dogs. Trixie and Gunner will be running in the ladies finals on Friday.
