As this issue of Turkey Call magazine hits our members’ mailboxes, turkey seasons across the country are in different phases, some closing, some wide open and others just beginning. Wherever you are, we hope you are connecting with the life-changing power of the outdoors and all that our favorite season has to offer. For the second year, we shattered our Convention and Sport Show attendance record with 72,243 folks attending! Never before have so many people joined us in Nashville to celebrate all the great things the NWTF stands for: wild turkeys, conservation, the soul of the American hunter and an unfaltering desire to leave the land better than we found it.

The most rewarding turkey images I captured this season were not taken hunting turkey. This image, featured in the current issue of the NWTF Turkey Call Magazine was taken near Kanopolis Lake, Kansas as the research team at Kansas State University & Kansas Department Of Wildlife released tagged birds back into the wild. This is a moment I will never forget. The survival of wild Turkey means the world to me, and to have this opportunity to capture this moment was truly a blessing. It took months of work to put me in the right place at the right time, special thanks to everyone who put up with my persistence. NWTF, thank you for all that you do!

The NWTF, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the Missouri Department of Conservation are compiling research and synthesis manuscripts on the ecology and management of wild turkeys for the 13th National Wild Turkey Symposium. Manuscripts will be presented at the Symposium and published in the 13th Wild Turkey Symposium Proceedings as part of a special section in an issue of the Wildlife Society Bulletin.
