The very first Kmart store opened which opened March 1, 1962, in Garden City, Michigan, will be closed. Kmart was originally started in Detroit as S.S. Kresge's. Macy also announced that it was closing stores at Eastland and Westland. Hudson's, which later became Macy's, originally built both malls where the stores are located. This follows the closure of the former Hudson's/Macy's store at Northland, which Hudson's built as the first shopping mall in the country, which will soon be demolished.
