Hair Wars honors Wayne County Treasurer Eric Sabree at a previous Hair Wars show in Dearborn, Michigan for all that he and his office does to prevent foreclosures.

Eric Sabree is very active with metro Detroit's large hair community. He's responsible for over 40 municipalities in Wayne County and the great thing about it, he'll be in office for another four year as he is running unopposed in the November, 2024 election. Congratulations!

The techno and electronic DJ's were rocking with all vinyl in 'The Room Without a Roof' at the Artist Village Detroit (from left) DJ Tom Linder DJ Roach ( Raul Rocha ) and Shawescape Renegade at The Hair Wars Party & Strolling Hair Show.

The 'Hair Wars Reunion Day Party' kicks off the 2024 Detroit Hair Wars at 6:05 pm. If you don't stay out late like back in the day, it's the perfect time to get out.

This is an exciting get-together for all the hair stylists, barbers, models, make-up artists, nail techs and all the people who've followed Hair Wars throughout the years.' We're celebrating the unity of the Detroit hair culture and show why Detroit has been known as 'The Hair Capital of the World.'

This is an indoor/outdoor event where you can bring your beverages and enjoy hot food off the grill while listening (and dancing) to old school jams by Hump The Grinder and other DJ's to follow.

The Strolling Hair Show starts around sunset while the party is in progress. And for the next couple of hours or so, pop-up hair presentations will hit the stage with some of the craziest hair creations you'll ever see. And for those who like to hang late, the party goes until 3 a.m.

You may have read the story about how Ripley's Believe It Or Not covered Hair Wars and twisted everything around.

We had two Hair Grammys in Detroit (where everyone in those shows received a Hair Grammy), and it didn't cause a stir - until we had the Hair Grammys in Los Angeles. We were on the local news (KTLA TV 5) for over two hours the morning of the show, and major networks and entertainment shows brought their camera crews to get coverage. We had several production trucks with satellite dishes. It was a media circus.

About a week after I returned to Detroit, someone was banging at my door like the police. I'm like what the hell? It was a messenger from the REAL Grammys serving me a 'Case and Desist' letter informing me that they own the rights to "Grammys," and I better stop at once.

And that's why you never heard of the Hair Grammys again. Well, at least they were paying attention. A 'Shout Out' to everyone who received a Hair Grammy. It's now a collector's item.

A "Shout Out" to my good friends Fiona and Jason, the traveling techno couple who welcomed me into their home in Scotland last summer.

A little Detroit Hair History...
..people ask why Hair Wars stopped giving hair shows on Easter Sunday, since Detroiters loved them so much.

Everyone enjoyed them, including the big ballers who spent more time in the lobby on the two shoe shine stands getting their various colored gators spiffed up (and of course, popping dem bottles).

After a couple of hot Easter Hair Wars (1992 & 93) in Southfield, Hump The Grinder realized it was too much on the participating hair stylists (especially the ones from out-of-town), taking away their biggest money-making weekend since the Christmas/New Year's holidays.

Other promoters ran with it, and it continued to be one of the hottest hair show days for years in Detroit.

After giving it a break for a few years, Billy Cason and Charles Hicks are bringing it back April 9, 2023 to Bert's Warehouse. Being the Hair Capital, I can only imagine an exciting evening. Billy supports Hair Wars EVERY year, so I definitely will be in the house. And I can't wait to see what the hair stars are going to bring to the stage.
