There’s a difference between loc maintenance & a retwist. 🤌🏽 I started Kam’s locs right before his 13th birthday, he’ll be 17 in 2 months. NOW I just gotta get Kam to wash his locs in betwen appointments so I dont have to pretreat his roots before shampooing anymore. My teenage boys are always my struggle clients. Here I am yall!! Standing on my hill!! Lol!! After almost 30yrs of having locs & doing hundreds of different people’s locs….not one of my clients in all of my 30yrs has ever sprayed their hair with plain water or water concoctions to hydrate it. Not before their hair was loc’d nor after. Wetting our natural hair loosens the curl pattern which is why we spray our naturals when it comes to combing & styling loose naturals but locs should not be styled daily so they don’t need to be wet daily. It actually dries locs out.. This is truly a social media trend that came about in the past 10yrs and it has yall in a chokehold while capitalism laughs all the way to the bank. & it’s funny that when I have this conversation most people say “everyone’s hair is different” yet all of yall (except my clients and most people over 40 lol) all are doing the same thing… spraying yall hair with plain water, rose water, rice water or some kind of water recipe. Ijs… it doesn’t makes sense. Your locs is still the same hair. Like really… will you wet your locs everyday when they grow down your back? Or just every other day then hunh?
