#Repost @nalinikids thank you for sharing this wonderful video from an awesome day! ・・・ As part of their Unplugged Family Day series, the Michener Art Museum @michenerart in Doylestown, PA presented OOPA’S World of Words @oopasworldofwords as a special live performance for kids ages 3-7 and their families on Sunday, June 9, 2024. NaliniKIDS founder, Rupa Mehta (OOPA) and local artist, Noel Figueroa (NoNo) @buckinghamblacksmith explored the word ‘sculpture’ through a playful scenario that illustrated the meaning of sculpture, followed by an interactive segment that made a physical connection to the word and got kids up and moving. The event also included a live reading of the OOPA’S World of Words companion picture book, and a tactile sculpture building station for children to engage in hands-on art projects. Michener Art Museum is pleased to present “Monuments and Myths: The America of Sculptors Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Daniel Chester French” who were preeminent American sculptors of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. As friendly rivals, they transformed sculpture in the United States, producing some of the country’s most recognizable public artworks, including French’s “Seated Abraham Lincoln” in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. and Saint Gaudens’s “Diana,” which graced the top of Madison Square Garden in New York. Our free Second Sunday event is this weekend from 1–3p.m. Come out to celebrate Art in Bloom, where we’ll be showcasing the accomplishments of over 300 student artists. Paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, and mixed media works inspired by the Michener collections will fill the Education Gallery in the Anne and Herman Silverman Education Center. Art-making stations will be set up throughout the classrooms for families to try and education staff will be on hand with information on upcoming art classes and summer camps. Our new executive director, Anne Corso, will be on hand to meet and greet visitors. Join Assistant Curator, Abi Lua @abilua, as she talks with TK Smith @tksmith106 about the life and work of artist Roland Ayers. Smith curated the exhibit “Roland Ayers: Calligraphy of Dreams” in 2021 at The Woodmere Art Museum. 📆: March 13th @ 1:00pm 📍: @michenerart Roland Ayers (1932–2014) was born in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia and trained at the Philadelphia College of the Arts (now University of the Arts). He is known for his precise line work that resulted in intricate drawings; black-ink figures of humans and nature on a neutral backdrop. Abi and TK will explore Ayers’ meditative process and look closely at the pieces Passage and Tree of Life, both on display in the exhibit “Renewal and Change: New Acquisitions.” TK Smith is a curator, writer and Cultural Historian. His curatorial projects include the 2021 Atlanta Biennial exhibition Virtual Remains at the Atlanta Contemporary, and Zipporah Camille Thompson: Looming Chaos at the Zuckerman Museum of Art. Smith’s writing has been published in Art in America, the Brooklyn Rail, and ART PAPERS, where he is a contributing editor.
