Emileigh Thomas (white uniform left) and Haley Williford (white uniform right) hustle back on
defense to try and stop West-Oak from scoring, but they weren't successful. "We had a great summer as we prepared for this upcoming season for girls and boys basketball here at Honea Path Middle School,"
explained Head Basketball Coach Demarius Smith. "So far the girls season has took a rocky turn, as we have only two returning players from last year, and the rest being first year players and new to the game. Coach Jalice Harris and myself continue to find ways to improve this team and have them ready to compete. We came up short in that game to West-Oak and we prepare for our next game as we look to get a win." "
βThe boys season started off tremendously as we defeated a very talented well coached Riverside team out of Pendleton," Coach Smith continued. "Again, we had to train hard and had very great progress with each player as far as what we wanted to gain out of this season. We came back and dropped two games. As we look ahead, we look forward to getting a win and gaining our identity back. As I always say, 'A great team will find a way to win'."

Beautiful voices filled the Belton-Honea Path High School Auditorium on December 5 when the
Honea Path Middle School Music Ideals presented their Holiday Concert. The choir was directed by CiGi
Curry and accompanied by Joey Carlisle. βWe are extremely proud of our Music Ideals students and how
wonderfully they performed," said Honea Path Middle School Principal John Michael Hall. "They put a lot
of work into this program, and we love to see our kids showcase their talents. Director CiGi Curry has done
an outstanding job of working with our students and helping them develop as performers and musicians. We
also appreciate the incredible parent and community support of our musical programs, and we are glad so
many came out to watch these students perform.β

Belton 8U Grizzlies (l-r) Sawyer Strawhorn, Weston Sanders (partial view), and Tyson Brezeale
practiced their basketball skills at the Belton Recreation Center on November 28. In this play, Strawhorn has
gotten open and is looking to take a jump shot. The result was a great shot, but unfortunately it hit nothing
but the bottom of the net. "This team is eager to learn the fundamentals of basketball at the ages of 7 to 8,"
said Coach Jonathan Lee. "The team comes to practice full of energy and readiness to put in the work to
improve. This is such a fun age to coach, since the excitement of every kid helps to bring out the best. As we prepare for the upcoming season, we will work more towards teamwork and improving skill sets. Letβs Go
Grizzlies!!!!!"

Brothers (l-r) Steel Bratcher, age 4, and Stratten Bratcher, age 2, both from Antreville, inspected the
Trinity Preschool Christmas tree on November 30 at the Watkins Community Center in preparation for the
Festival of Trees last Saturday. βI was holding a decoration that was so pretty! It was a gingerbread house,βsaid Steel. Stratten had no comment. βThe preschool students were really excited about seeing all the Christmas trees in one place, which adds to the magic of Christmas for little kids,β said Kay Powell, On-Site Administrator for Trinity Preschool.
