We're celebrating an incredibly happy Earth Day today as a team from NCSSM has just won The Earth Prize 2024! 🌎 Their winning project, FloodGate, is an accessible and cost-effective web-based application that utilizes geographic elevation data and AI to create an interactive 3D model to predict the susceptibility of communities and critical infrastructure to flooding. The innovative project by students Shubhan Bhattacharya, George Cheng, Sumedh Kotrannavar, and Reichen Schaller bested hundreds of teams from around the globe to win a $50,000 prize, which will be split in half between the team and the school. Better still, FloodGate can mitigate loss of life and property by alerting at-risk communities in advance to the likelihood of flooding and by providing accurate information to emergency responders and relief organizations. #NCSSM #TheEarthPrize #EarthDay
