Cheers to the New Year!

May your weeks be filled with delightful surprises, contagious laughter, and the magic of forging new connections.

Let's embrace the moments with those special souls who ignite our inspiration and fill our cups with positivity.

Let’s make 2024 a story of service and kindness, reaching out to those who need us the most.

Here's to a year that not only unfolds blessings for us but allows us to be a blessing to others!

#2024

It's been a long time, we shouldn't have left you
Without a strong event to go to
Think of how many weak events you slept through
Time's up, we’re sorry we kept you

We kept hearing you wanted us to come back, so here we come.
Don't call it a comeback, we’ve been here for years!

Get ready to network with us at Durham’s first Black-owned brewery, Proximity Brewing Company.

We’re not sayin we’re number one, uhh we’re sorry, we lied
We’re number one, two, three, four and five

Stay tuned!

I used to spend considerable time running around and going to networking events to connect with people. While I have met some incredible people and even made some friends along the way, at times, these events seem like nothing more than a transactional service. You exchange cards, and elevator pitches and talk about what you do in hopes that something good comes out of it.

Just stop networking.

What I mean is too often we are running around to different networking events like a bee pollinating flowers instead of sitting down and building deep and meaningful relationships with people.

It’s important to focus on developing strong relationships with a few people instead of trying to build many shallow ones. Have meaningful conversations and connect by understanding each other. In this way, you can start building mutually beneficial relationships and not just collect business cards.

This doesn't mean that you should stop attending networking events altogether. It just means that you need to make sure you’re focusing on quality rather than quantity when it comes to your relationships. Choose the right events, pick people who share common interests, and have meaningful conversations instead of trying to collect as many business cards as possible. This will ensure that your networking is mutually beneficial and creates valuable relationships.

I'd rather have 2 meaningful relationship-building interactions than go out and meet 50 people. Networking can be shallow at times, while relationship building will always build a deep connection. So focus on building meaningful relationships that can benefit both parties in the long run and make sure you're not just networking for the sake of networking.

When you focus on quality instead of quantity, it’s much easier to establish strong relationships that will be beneficial in the long run. So make sure to always emphasize developing a few relationships rather than collecting many contacts. It's better for your business and your personal life.

In conclusion, networking is important, but it's even more important to build meaningful relationships with people who share common interests. Don’t be afraid to stop networking and start relationship building.

So, take time to stay connected and cultivate meaningful relationships.

Happy connecting!

Many introverted individuals hear the word “networking” and immediately feel overwhelmed—which is entirely understandable! They may not feel inclined to reach out to strangers or have a hard time connecting with people outside of their comfort zone.

As we embark on the New Year, let us make a commitment to love ourselves and love one another even more.

May this be the new year that brings us joy in all that we do, peace within our families, and a deeper connection with our community.

It’s time for us to prioritize service not only to ourselves but also to others - within our households and neighborhoods and beyond.

Service is what will continue to unify us, bringing love into every single action we make.

With that mindset, let’s find strength in each other this upcoming year and make it our mission to stay connect-ED with love-filled hearts, minds, and service to others

12/24/2022

This season, take a moment to slow down, to pause and appreciate the blessing of having people in your life who love you and offer you generosity.

Be grateful for those gifts, both big and small, that come into each day from the people we know and the strangers whom our paths cross with throughout our lives.

Spend some time thinking about what it is that makes those gestures of love so special. When gratitude fills your heart, joy often follows—giving us a true sense of peace this season.

May this be the most meaningful Christmas filled with grace and love yet!

Seek to be of Service

Professional networking can be a great way to make connections and grow your career. However, it's important to approach networking with the right mindset. Specifically, you should focus on how you can be of service to others rather than what you can get out of the relationship. Here are several reasons why this is important.

Why Collaboration is Key to Achieving Your Goals?

We all have different goals. Some of us want to grow our sales, some of us want to start our own business, and some of us just want to learn to better at marketing. No matter what our goals are, we all have one thing in common: we're more likely to achieve them if we work together. Here's why collaboration is key to achieving your goals.

The Power of Numbers

There's strength in numbers, and that's especially true when it comes to achieving goals. When you collaborate with others, you have more people working towards a common goal. This means that there are more people to come up with ideas, more people to help when you're feeling stuck, and more people to celebrate with when you finally reach your goal. Collaboration also allows you to tap into a wider range of skills and knowledge. So, if you're looking to achieve a goal that's outside of your comfort zone or area of expertise, working with someone who has the necessary skills and knowledge can be invaluable.

Bouncing Ideas Off of Each Other

One of the best things about collaboration is that it allows you to constantly bounce ideas off each other. This back-and-forth exchange of ideas helps keep the creative juices flowing and can ultimately lead to better results. When you're working on a project by yourself, it can be easy to get stuck in a rut. But when you're working with someone else, they can help point you in the right direction when you hit a wall. Collaboration helps ensure that no good idea goes unheard or untouched.

Focus on Your Individual Strengths

When you're collaborating with someone else on a project, it's important to focus on your individual strengths. This doesn't mean that you should only do the things that you're good at or that you enjoy doing; it just means that you should be aware of the things that you bring to the table so that the overall project can benefit from them. For example, if you're collaborating on a school project with a classmate, and you know that they're much better at writing than you are, then offer to do the research while they focus on putting the final paper together. By playing to your strengths, everyone involved will be able to contribute in a way that's both meaningful and impactful.

Collaboration is key to achieving your goals because it allows you to tap into the power of numbers, bounce ideas off each other, and focus on your individual strengths. When we work together towards a common goal, we open up possibilities for success that we might not have had if we were working alone. So next time you're feeling stuck or lost, remember that there's always someone out there who can help get you back on track.

Why I'll Never Forget 9/11

It's been 21 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. For many Americans, myself included, that day is burned into our memory. I was living in Charlotte working for a division of Wachovia Bank, when the planes hit the World Trade Center towers, and like the rest of the country, I was horrified. In the days and weeks that followed, our nation came together in a way I had never seen before. Americans from all walks of life came together to support one another. We were united in our grief and our resolve to never forget what happened that day.

In the years since 9/11, we have continued to come together as a nation whenever tragedy strikes. After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, Americans from all over the country traveled there to help with the recovery effort. In 2016, when a mass shooting left 49 people dead at an Orlando nightclub, people across the country mourned with those who had lost loved ones. We showed our solidarity by donating blood, attending vigils, and flying rainbow flags.

In recent years, however, it seems like our country has become more divided than ever. Political arguments have become increasingly heated, and it seems like we can't even agree on basic facts anymore. Maybe that's why it's more important than ever to remember what happened on 9/11—to remember how we came together as a nation in spite of our differences. Because while we may not always see eye to eye, at the end of the day, we're all Americans.

The terrorist attacks of September 11th changed our nation forever. In the years since then, we have faced other challenges—hurricanes, mass shootings, political divides—but through it all, we have always stuck together as a country.

On this anniversary of 9/11, let us remember those who lost their lives and reaffirm our commitment to never forget what happened on that day, because as American’s We Are Connect-ED.

What is We Are Connect-ED All About?

Give and it shall be given unto you. What you give comes back to you. It’s the law of reciprocity.

At the highest levels of business, relationships are built on mutuality. You plant the seeds of the relationship. Cultivate those seeds and give before you ever receive.

Started in 2018 as a way to serve the small business and community at large, We Are Connect-ED is all about service to others. Our premise when we began was to create a platform for small business owners, entrepreneurs and the community to come together and build real and lasting relationships.

Connect-ED is a professional community consisting of individuals who understand the importance of building meaningful connections. Built on the idea that the small business community, regardless of the industry we all share a common goal, to develop strong relationships that help grow their businesses and professional lives. Through events in several cities within the U.S., We Are Connect-ED provides a platform that makes connecting easy, educational and most of all enjoyable.
