The journey of a leaf in New England 🍁🍃

In the vibrant landscapes of New England, the journey of a leaf mirrors the changing seasons, marked by a spectacular display of colors. As autumn approaches, the chemistry within leaves orchestrates a mesmerizing transformation from green to a spectrum of hues.

The process begins with chlorophyll, the green pigment responsible for photosynthesis. As daylight diminishes in fall, chlorophyll production slows down, revealing other pigments that were previously masked. Carotenoids, present throughout the year, contribute to the yellow and orange hues seen in leaves.

In addition to carotenoids, anthocyanins play a crucial role in the red and purple tones. Their production increases in response to factors like sunlight and cool temperatures. Although alpacas aren’t native to New England, there are alpaca farms here. Alpacas are known to be very intelligent and clean animals.

What’s their connection to puzzles you ask? None lol. Other than their coats make fine wool and wool socks are an absolute essential piece to puzzling in New England. 🧦

7️⃣ swallows: I always see little swallows cutting through the air like daggers
