Wishing all who celebrate a very blessed Festival of Lights.
The blessing below translates: “Blessed are you, Our God, Ruler of the Universe, who makes us Holy through Your commandments, and commands us to light the Hanukkah lights.”

For those of you who don’t know, The Festival of Lights originally symbolized the tyranny that existed around the year 200 B.C. in the land of Israel. The victory over this tyranny was celebrated with a Gold Menorah and 9 candles. It also symbolizes the rebirth and rededication of Jerusalem’s second temple, after the Syrians under Antiochus III massacred thousands of people in the city and his people sacrificed pigs to an altar for Zeus, which they put in the temple. God’s chosen people fought to get their temple back and lit the candelabrum in dedication. (Hanukkah in The Hebrew language is “dedication.”) The night they lit that first Menorah they felt a sense of light in a dark world.
If you don’t celebrate I wish that you would take some lessons from this, and be the light in the dark world, fight for what is right, and honor those who fought to keep what you now have. Honor others no matter what their religion, learn other cultures, and always respect each other.
