We all know dentistry is a strange profession but have you ever considered how unique it really is? Not only are we operating on people’s teeth and mouths, we design all of the prosthetics, too. It’s like treating a burn victim in the ER and then making fake fingers for their hand. Who does that??? I’ve always liked lab work but was unsure whether I’d like using Exocad. After all, I could mount and wax a case so quickly, I thought. And for big cases, I could send to the lab. But that takes time…and money. What I’ve realized is that I’m not that fast at waxing. 😂 I’m much faster on the computer! And with the larger cases, I save a lot of time 💰 because I don’t have to put together those PowerPoint presentations for the lab tech with pictures and specific details. That takes so much time! There are a few design programs out there and they vary in levels of tech-spertise 🤓required. I chose Exocad because a fellow dentist @beautyandtheteeth 👄 offered training from a cosmetic/restorative perspective. Whatever you choose will be fine! They all create the same .stl files that can be used by your printers, mills, and labs. This is for a composite veneer case that I will be doing tomorrow. Injection molding? Lingual shelf matrix with blended layers? Last minute call for porcelain? We’ll see.
