As we approach Match Day, we spotlight Joshua Membreno, MS4! 🌟 Joshua, a proud first-generation American with Nicaraguan roots, credits his family's strong bond and support as pivotal to his achievements. Their emphasis on heritage has deeply influenced his values and aspirations. Joshua hopes to match into an Internal Medicine residency program; he found his calling during a rotation that highlighted the joy of patient interaction and the diversity of medical topics it encompasses. This specialty resonates with his desire for continuous exploration and meaningful patient care. At UTRGV School of Medicine, Joshua was exposed to a unique patient demographic, including underserved communities, enriching his medical training with a deep understanding of healthcare's social determinants. These experiences have uniquely prepared him for the challenges ahead. Joshua believes the impact of Academic Medicine, integrating education, clinical exposure, and a transformative learning environment, has reshaped his perspective. This comprehensive journey has not only changed him but also solidified his commitment to growth and learning in medicine. Congratulations, Joshua! We know you will achieve great things! 🧡💫 #UTRGVMatch2024 #UTRGVSOM #UTRGV #AcademicMedicine

As Match Day approaches, we shine a spotlight on Ruayda Bouls from Harlingen, Texas 🌟 Raised in the Rio Grande Valley, Ruayda’s journey is grounded in perseverance and learning. With her mother's roots in Mexican-American heritage and her father's Syrian background, she was taught the importance of passion and curiosity from a young age. Ruayda hopes to match into an internal medicine residency program and has an interest in hematology/oncology, shaped by her experiences and research at UTRGV School of Medicine. Her journey through UTRGV SOM has been marked by significant achievements, including presenting her research at the prestigious American Society of Hematology Conference in San Diego. Through clinical practice and research, particularly her involvement in the AHEC program, Ruayda credits academic medicine at UTRGV SOM for thoroughly preparing her for the future. Looking ahead, she’s enthusiastic about possibly specializing and ultimately giving back to the community that has supported her growth. Ruayda, congratulations on your accomplishments!
