If you read this quote by the Oklahoma Healthcare Authority, she confirms the intent is to use content collected in confidential spaces to turn information into data for their own use. That is a violation of a person seeking psychotherapy under the rules of confidentiality.

If someone has never engaged in psychotherapy and had the experience of finding themselves in a safe/confidential space, I imagine it is hard to see why therapists are making all the “fuss.” I can tell you from the experience of both sides of the couch, a client and a provider, that mental health although it is a medical profession, is also not the same as medicine. It is a sacred space that requires complete confidentiality. It requires the individual to have power for themselves as to where their records are stored and who is allowed to know their identity. I believe this confidentiality should be available to all, those using insurance and those who do private pay. We all need a safe/confidential space that is grounded in the knowledge of science, but encased in the art of relationship, a place where we can bravely see, know, and find ourselves.

If you would like to retain control of where your mental health records are stored please contact your representative and let them know you want mental health providers excluded from SB 1369.
