Effective July 1, 2024, almost every employer must include a written Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP) as part of its injury prevention program. The plan must always be in effect, designed specifically for each work area and operation.

Cal/OSHA will enforce the new law through its standard inspection, citation, and penalty framework. Depending on the nature of an alleged violation, potential penalties may climb as high as $25,000 (for violations classified as "serious") or $153,744 (for violations classified as "willful"). Cal/OSHA will also require employers deemed out of compliance to abate alleged violations to Cal/OSHA's satisfaction, potentially including changes to employers' policies and procedures.

In California, heat illness prevention training is required for all outdoor workers and a written prevention plan must be available at all outdoor worksites. This is not optional, it’s the law. If you are a local business in general industry or agriculture handling hazardous material or waste in quantities of 55 gallons for liquids, 500 pounds for solids, or 200 cubic feet for compressed gases, you must certify your HMBP online by August 31st of each calendar year. (https://cers.calepa.ca.gov/)

This applies to businesses that generate, process, produce, or simply store new or used oil, used oil filters, or have gasoline or diesel tanks in these amounts or greater.
