Videos by Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center in El Paso. Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, a non-profit organization, provides high quality legal representation for the most vulnerable immigrants - battered women, low income immigrants, and refugees seeking asylum.
Our executive director, Marisa Limón Garza, joined @democracynow and discussed the impact of anti-immigrant rhetoric on borderland communities, asylum seekers, and long-term immigrants without relief. “At Las Americas IAC, we believe that people have a right to migrate just as much as they have a right to thrive in place,” she said. 🔗Listen to the full interview here: https://www.democracynow.org/2024/3/1/border_trump_biden

#SB4 is one of the most extreme anti-immigrant bills ever passed in the country. That’s why we sued Texas to ensure its lawlessness never goes into effect. Our communities deserve better than overpolicing, harassment, and cruelty as policy. Together, let’s make sure that Texas is a safe place for everyone to live — no matter our race, background, or immigration status. Today, we are joining Hope Border Institute Interfaith Immigration Coalition and advocates for an interfaith prayer vigil in support of asylum. This showing of solidarity comes as Congress members return to Capitol Hill after the winter recess to resume ongoing negotiations that seek to trade away the rights of immigrants and asylum seekers in exchange for short-term foreign aid.
Our Executive Director, Marisa Limón Garza’s raw reaction following news that the Biden administration is open to reviving harmful Trump-era policies, including Title 42, in exchange for Ukraine funding. “If you are watching, I urge you to contact your Members of Congress and the Biden administration and urge them to vote NO on anti-immigrant measures. Comprehensive and humane immigration reform should be separate from any spending bill,” she shared.

3 years ago today, our communities were hunted down in a horrific attack against our culture and way of life. The killer was inspired by words of war like "invasion" and "invaders.” This language is radical, craven, and unhinged, and does not describe immigrants or the reality of the border. Our client A* spoke with Paola Ramos at VICE . She is finally ready to tell her story and her experience of that day. Never forget. Today and always, love for El Paso. ❤️🩹
Our Rachel Jackson spoke with KPFA last week about the future of DACA and how Governor Abbott is hostile to asylum seekers and migrant communities. 🦋 “Trump’s spirit is very much alive under Abbott’s governance. His policies have created chaos at the border while also eliminating due process and order. They are making things worse, not safer,” said Rachel. 🦋 Listen 📢
Our Gabriela Muñoz @raicestexas @instabaji @haitianbridge @immdef_lawcenter @translawcenter & @humanrightsfirst to raise the alarm on the ongoing racial discrimination Black migrants face everyday in the U.S. and at our border. 🦋 “Each day, our office receives hundreds of calls from Black asylum seekers in Juarez. The vast majority of them have suffered ongoing racial discrimination and mistreatment in Mexico. They are disproportionately housing vulnerable, living in the streets or church basements. They are sick and dying. Hospitals refuse to provide them service and employers will not hire them for jobs. Police racialize them as “others” not worthy of protection let alone human dignity. In this environment, Black migrants journey through Mexico is one of survival and constant struggle only to be turned away at our border, expelled to Mexico, or sent back to Haiti,” shared our Gaby. 🦋 Watch and hear more about what Gaby sees on the ground everyday working with those most vulnerable.
“With policies like Remain in Mexico and Title 42 there really is no dignified way to come into the U.S. and seek asylum,” our Crystal Sandoval said this morning. @jdbalart @msnbc watch her full interview here ⬆️
